AECOM Water-Wastewater Project Engineer in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Summary

This Project Engineering role within our Charlotte, NC AECOM office offers a mix of direct design and client-facing work. Mentor junior staff while working on a combination of local and regional projects with a variety of scopes and applications. With an emphasis on

water/wastewater conveyance and pumping system design, you will work on projects from the planning through permitting and construction phases, including alternative delivery projects.

Working with industry leading senior team members, the successful candidate will also have opportunities to develop new business and lead small to mid-sized water/wastewater projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering or related discipline

  • 5+ years of experience in municipal water/wastewater conveyance and pumping engineering and design

  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in NC or have the ability to obtain within 6 months with the ability to become licensed in SC as well

  • Must have project engineer experience with some experience managing projects or components of projects

  • Must have strong technical engineering expertise in water or wastewater treatment conveyance design

  • Must have demonstrated time management skills, work ethic, and attention to detail

  • Must have the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers and project managers for the preparation of high quality work products

  • Must have the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, regulatory agency representatives and members of the public when required to represent the company

  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in NC or have the ability to obtain within 6 months with the ability to become licensed in SC as well

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must have strong communication skills in coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.

  • Occasional business travel of one to two days per month may be required

  • Must have a sound foundation in the planning, permitting, and design of water and wastewater conveyance projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering a plus

  • Candidate must have proven excellent leadership skills, and demonstrated ability to successfully work in diverse teams

  • Experience working on projects by “alternative delivery” approaches a plus (design/build, progressive design/build, construction management at risk, etc.)

  • Experience in preparation of engineering proposals for submission to clients

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3-D software

  • Must have demonstrated successful client relationship skills as a project engineer and be capable of assisting senior staff in growing and securing business opportunities
