AECOM is actively seeking highly motivated Linguist Interns for employment in the Northern VA area. AECOM desires candidates that have the ability to be a role model, client-focused, impactful and decisive. The Linguist Intern will support GMS by building our insight into the landscape of linguistic higher education in the United States. The intern will conduct open source research in English and in the source language as well as translation of articles, summarization of key points, and report creation. This position will require a full time commitment during the summer working on site in the Washington Metropolitan Area, followed by a part-time commitment starting in the fall, where work may be performed remotely within the United States. Training will be provided.
Must be a US citizen.
Must be fluent / near-native or native in one of the following languages: Hungarian, Greek, Indonesian, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese, Turkish, Armenian, Polish, Czech, Slovak.
Must be fluent / near-native or native English and have strong ability in written English composition.
Must possess strong cultural knowledge and be very capable and knowledgeable in Microsoft applications and with performing internet research.
Must have the ability to review audio/video material and write/transcribe information into English with a high-degree of accuracy and expression.
A rising junior or senior level undergraduate, or graduate student.
Currently pursuing a degree in a foreign language or a language related discipline.
The ability to accurately translate a wide variety of complex texts from the source language into English. These texts may contain difficult, idiomatic, scientific, and colloquial writing.
The ability to accurately capture cultural subtleties, nuance, and emphasis. A level of cultural mastery is required for the translator to capture socio-cultural essentials embedded in text to include political, religious, historic, and ethnic elements.
The ability to identify and flawlessly summarize all pertinent factual information and abstract concepts, recognizing the significance of complex expressions, such as colloquial text or technical terminologies.
The ability to triage documentation to isolate the full-range of information that is of importance to a task.
