AECOM Principal Environmental Scientist in Centurion, South Africa

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented Principal Environmental Scientist to deliver ESIA consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality, to programme and budget. You must be a self-motivated individual with strong client focus and a demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with the relevant environmental authorities. You must be able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team to ensure that the Environmental aspects of the projects are given due consideration. Client focus, quality, health and safety are key priorities for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will need to be equally comfortable working on small or major prospects, proposals and projects, contributing positively as a technical specialist or managing/ directing environmental impact assessment and environmental due diligence projects in the oil and gas, power, infrastructure and industrial sectors across the Middle East and Africa Region.

You will focus on building excellent client and regulator relationships across the region to grow with the objective of growing the business.) while maintaining focus on quality deliverables, client and collegial relations.

Minimum Requirements :


  • Practical Experience - Minimum 10 years’ experience in managing environmental projects; and

  • Business Skills - Report and proposal writing, project management and communication skills essential

  • An ability to develop relationships with Clients and sell the AECOM brand.

  • Establish and manage effective, collaborative working relationships with AECOM staff, both within your home office, and internationally; and

  • Maintain a high level of integrity (and, when required, discretion) in communications and dealings with staff.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Must have proficient English language skills (French would be an advantage)

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical and professional proficiency with a solid career history and experience in delivering environmental projects in a collaborative environment.

  • Experience in business development with new and existing clients and preparation of tenders and fee proposals.Versatile and highly experienced in pursuing opportunities and managing the delivery of environmental liability and geoenvironmental projects with strong written and verbal communication skills; in particular, the ability to write clear and concise proposals and technical reports is essential.

  • Experience delivering to both local and international standards

  • Demonstrated professional Africa and specific industry and project experience – oil & gas, power, industrials, ports, rail, highways and mining.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four year accredited college or university

  • Professional registration with SACNASP or EAPASA
