Our Building Services team are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in Data Centre/Mission Critical projects and has good client facing skills to join the Building Engineering team to be based in one of our UK or Ireland offices – location can be flexible.
The Principal Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the leading the design for critical systems on data centre projects across Europe. This will involve preparing scheme and detailed engineering designs for critical and non-critical electrical systems for major data centres, both Hyperscale and CoLo. The successful candidate will have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with a mechanical engineering / building services degree, who is enthusiastic, self motivated, and looking to advance their career
Duties of the role will include, but not be limited to:
Receiving brief from Senior Management, be able to contribute to the overall coordinated design, as well as the electrical design.
Help to assess staff requirements at each work stage, agreeing these with the Project Manager and be able to manage single disciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects.
Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants to provide a fully coordinated design
Undertake the control of all production aspects of the projects in the office.
Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations, make submissions to the Statutory Authorities and obtain approvals as necessary
Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns.
Attend tender / client interviews.
Attend site inspection meetings.
Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme.
Understand and implement AECOM’s Safety Health and Environment Policy.
A strong technical understanding of electrical building services on Data Centre and Mission Critical Projects
The ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently, and to take ownership of projects.
Effective communication skills and be a team worker
Significant track record of leading electrical design teams on data centre projects.
Client facing experience on data centre projects.
Experience in project and client management within a defined fee budget and program, including managing team resources and interfacing with other disciplines.
Mentoring and support skills for the less senior engineers and technicians in the electrical team.
Experience in identifying and winning new work and building client relationships
Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations
Chartered Engineer with CIBSE
Member of the Uptime Institute
