Job Summary

URS/AECOM has an opening for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead in Qatar.


Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day to day execution of the vehicle

maintenance shop. Supervises anywhere from 18 to 25 personnel of US Expat & OCN employees. Performs organizational, intermediate level maintenance/modifications on military equipment HIMARS launchers, cranes, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools, and FMTV, HEMTT, a wide assortment of wheel vehicles including trailers.


  1. Performs organizational, intermediate level maintenance/modifications on military equipment, wide assortment of

wheel vehicles including trailers.

  1. Diagnoses system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies.

  2. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using Technical Manuals (TM), lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools.

  3. Inspects, repairs, and replaces components, engines, transmissions, and sub-assemblies.

  4. Trains team members in solving unusual maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting. Identifies parts in

repair manuals and places order request for needed parts.

  1. May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, may adjust

and maintain machinery such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and any other related


  1. Recommends revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.

  2. Working supervisory position. Ensures established policies and procedures are effectively enforced. Controls shop

maintenance schedule to ensure maximum utilization of assigned personnel.

  1. Reviews work in progress and upon completion for conformance to standards and to ensure his / her section maintains

the highest standards of workmanship and quality while utilizing applicable equipment Technical Manuals.

  1. Ensures his / her section maintains control over material requirements, enforces supply economy, and controls security,

use and care of government parts, tools and equipment.

  1. Supervises compliance with safety and environmental policies and procedures, and is proficient in proper handling and

disposal of hazardous materials and waste.

  1. Ensures all personnel follow safety procedures when operating and maintaining equipment.

  2. Supervise the performance of full range of operator, organizational, direct support and limited general support equipment

repairs on all sizes and types of military equipment.

  1. The Lead is responsible for the quality of the work within their respective shops.

  1. The Lead develops performance standards, counsels employees on a regular basis and makes formal and informal

performance appraisals.

  1. Supervises the determination of exact nature of / and extent of repairs required.

  2. Supervises the performance of repairs on internal combustion and turbine engines, transmissions, suspension, steering,

braking systems and all related electrical, fuel, hydraulic, wheel and engine assemblies.

  1. Supervise the use of diagnostic and specialized test equipment such as compression testers, multimeters, motor

analyzers and test benches to test, troubleshoot adjust, and repair equipment.

  1. Reads and interprets electrical and hydraulic schematic wiring diagrams.

  2. Supervises the replacement and / or repair of unserviceable vehicle parts.

  3. Supervises maintenance of tools and equipment and ensures work areas are maintained and cleaned.

  4. Supervises ordering of repair parts as required using military technical manuals.

  5. Directs and assist work of junior and helper mechanics as required.

  6. Maintains up to date knowledge of what is going on in his shop including job status, personnel status, tool status and

upcoming requirements / events.

  1. Provides reports applicable to his / her maintenance operation in the form of equipment / personnel status updates.

  2. Ensures timesheets are updated daily and reviews and signs them prior to turn in.

  3. Counsels employees on a regular basis both good and bad. Initiates proposals for formal and disciplinary action as


  1. Maintains proper Key Control records.

  2. Performs other duties and assignments as assigned.


Office Automation, AWRDS, Excel, Microsoft Office. Automotive automated and hand tools, steam cleaning equipment, and

material handling equipment (MHE).

Minimum Requirements

Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High School graduate or equivalent.

This position may require mandatory training. Initiative to complete LSS/Greenbelt certification program, and all other URS required and recommended leadership training.

  • Must have or able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) / U.S. Passport.

  • A valid US driver’s license is required, and able to obtain Qatar Driver’s License.

  • Must be US citizen.

  • Must have US Passport.


  • Six years combined experience in wheeled and tracked vehicle maintenance at the journeyman level, with at least two years of Supervisory experience.

  • Must understand and be well versed in the performance of organizational, direct and general support maintenance of tactical wheeled and combat (Track) vehicles.

  • Experience with applying Six Sigma as a methodology.

  • Must have five years as a supervisor.

  • Minimum six (6) years of recent heavy equipment experience gained either in military or commercial application.

Must know theory and principles of engine operations and accessories and components. Read, interpret and use vehicle maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring/schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.

Must be able to inspect, repair and operate.

Must possess basis skills in computer operations.

Must have ability to read, interpret and apply TM instructions, publications, and safety rules.

Must have ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.


MS Office suite expertise is required as well as excellent oral, written and presentation skills.

Fluent in English as exemplified in writing and in verbal skills.

Must be able to work independent and as a team member.

Support maintenance of tactical wheeled and track vehicles.

Must be willing to conduct themselves IAW URS, APS-5 Program, APS-5 Qatar Project Orders and Directives.

Conduct them and treat all leaders and employees in a very professional manner at all times both on and off the job.

Fluent in English as exemplified in writing and in verbal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Military supply knowledge preferred.
