AECOM Senior Regulatory Specialist, Impact Assessment and Permitting in Calgary, Alberta

AECOM is actively seeking an energetic, self-motivated Senior Regulatory Specialist for employment in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will provide senior regulatory and technical support to project managers and clients in support of a wide variety of infrastructure projects in Western Canada, with a focus on Alberta in the Oil and Gas Sector. In addition, the Senior Regulatory Specialist will lead and participate in business development initiatives and provide mentoring to the team.
The key responsibilities of this position include:
Act as a senior regulatory advisor on a variety of projects across Western Canada
Lead environmental assessment and permitting projects for O&G, power, and municipal infrastructure projects
Support the development of the Impact Assessment & Permitting business by developing. relationships with existing and future clients and supporting business development initiatives
Develop and review environmental permit applications and environmental protection and management plans.
Author and review environmental assessments and technical documents that support regulatory applications.
Planning, coordination, and logistics of environmental field studies.
Work directly with clients to provide strategic environmental advice.
Evaluate task progress against project schedule and budget. Evaluate project performance and identify areas of concern.
Manage subcontractor’s involvement in the projects. Coordinate contracts, budgets, commitments, expenditures, invoices and performance.
Lead the development of project proposals.
Establish and maintain relationships with government regulatory agencies
Support compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements and. coordination of AECOM’s quality control program

- BA/BS in environmental science or biology + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Strong understanding of federal and western Canadian provincial regulations and permitting requirements
Proven knowledge of environmental permit, approval and compliance requirements including Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), Impact Assessment Agency (CEAA) or other permitting regimes
Direct experience with AUC Rule 007 applications, EPEA Facility Approval applications, Conservation and Reclamation (C&R) plans, Enhanced Approval Process (EAP) applications, Water Act applications
Project and task management experience with strong attention to detail
Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving and time management skills
Good interpersonal communication skills
Ability to express ideas logically, clearly, and concisely
Ability to function effectively as part of a team and independently
Highly motivated and accountable
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license
