Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Purchasing Lead to be based in our Calgary, AB location.

This position will be responsible for leading project or business group purchasing teams.

  • Identifies sources for materials and equipment, evaluates the capabilities and performance of suppliers, and selects qualified suppliers based upon their ability to provide competitive pricing, acceptable terms, appropriate material quality, and timely supply of goods.

  • Performs purchasing functions in conformance with the requirements of the prime contract with the client.

  • Issues requests for quotations, evaluates supplier quotations, plans and conducts negotiations, prepares cost and price analyses, availability studies, risk analyses, bid analysis summaries, and award recommendations that treat suppliers fairly and ethically, protects the company's interests, and promotes best value awards

  • Awards, issues, and documents all agreements with suppliers.

  • Monitors supplier performance, issues change orders, and manages supplier relations.

  • Resolves disputes with suppliers and evaluates supplier performance.

  • Prepares, compiles, and maintains auditable records of the purchasing process.

  • Maintains awareness of market conditions and delivery trends to determine future material availability and pricing probability.

  • Manages purchase orders to ensure timely completion, compliance with requirements, and appropriateness of invoices and payment.

  • Keeps management advised of significant purchasing issues and potential problem areas.

  • Prepare procurement and materials management reports.

  • Reviews invoices and resolves discrepancies.

  • May obtain budgetary pricing from suppliers and prepare bid analysis to support Company proposals.

  • Prepares the negotiation strategy and leads negotiation meetings with suppliers.

  • Provides training and mentoring to purchasing personnel.

  • Assigns tasks to purchasing personnel and manages their activities.

  • Ensures compliance with Company policies, procedures, standards, and use of automated systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, construction management, economics or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training and related experience

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering, construction, maintenance projects, or operating industrial facilities in purchasing or other procurement and materials management functions.

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Familiar with basic critical path schedules and able to use schedules in the establishment of procurement and materials management milestones

  • Knowledgeable of legal terminology within procurement and materials management terms and conditions and has the ability to evaluate and resolve risks due to deviations

  • Advanced skills in problem resolution.

  • Possesses the skills for analyzing bids to identify potential for cost savings and developing negotiation strategies

  • Great verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in MS office (Word and Excel) and ability to use procurement and materials management systems

  • Valid Driver's license and clean driver's abstract required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Field experience desired

  • Experience in one or more of the areas of expediting, transportation and site materials management preferred

  • Previous experience in industrial construction, facility construction and maintenance services' supply chain management experience is an asset
