AECOM Proposal Manager, Canada Federal in Calgary, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM’s Canada Federal marketing team is looking for an experienced a proposal manager to assist in winning Federal work. You will collaborate with regional and BL teams on identified priority pursuits, including partnering in the preparation of responses to client solicitations (requests for standing offers (RSFO), request for qualifications (RFQ), requests for proposals (RFP), shortlist interviews, and pre-solicitation efforts). You will be responsible for development and submission of timely, compliant, and persuasive proposals. You must be able to work quickly and independently, and be able to effectively prioritize multiple projects to meet competing deadlines. Work may occasionally be required in the evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or to coordinate with staff in different time zones.

This position requires experience in Federal pursuits, attention to detail, creativity, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, solid writing skills, organization, conceptual thinking, and effective decision-making. Work may be performed under the direction of business development or business line staff, but the position will report directly to a Senior Manager within the National Governments marketing team.

This position can be based in Ottawa ON, Calgary AB, or other locations within driving distance of main AECOM offices in Canada.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Participates in strategic planning that includes evaluating marketing intelligence, identifying customer concerns and key issues, and developing win strategies.

  • Contributes to leadership and strategic direction for proposals, and reports on client pipeline, internal business development strategies, capture planning, proposal efforts, and debriefs related to that client/portfolio.

  • Contributes to internal training on topics related to core processes, tools, practices or other special topics, as needed.

  • Engages on priority pursuits from capture through to interview stage, either as lead, support to another marketing lead, or as interview coach.

  • Leads or participates in Go/No-Go, readiness analyses, capture planning and positioning activities, and drives compliance with delegation of authority guidelines for must-win pursuits.

  • Serves as a reviewer for colour team reviews or as compliance reviewer on must-win pursuits across all federal market sectors, applying in-depth institutional knowledge.

  • Provides quality assurance support and guidance to Capture Managers

  • Leads the writing of proposal sections such as executive summaries, past performance sections, management approaches, and resumes/staffing sections for must-win pursuits.

  • Supports debriefs and gathering of client feedback on proposals to ensure and demonstrate continuous improvement.

  • Supports the marketing communications function that develops marketing collateral targeted to Canadian government agencies, including print materials, presentations, and online content, as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing or a related field, or or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • 4+ years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate and write in English and French is preferred.

  • APMP/SMPS certification is a plus.

  • 5+ years of related experience.

  • Working knowledge of and interest in the A/E industry, including AECOM’s clients, projects, people, credentials, and competitors.

  • Evidence of successful leadership of Federal multi-disciplinary or multi-geography proposals valued>$5 million CAD from capture through interview.

  • A thorough understanding of effective proposal and presentation best practices and tools, including how to develop and convey messages, themes, discriminators, and responses to evaluation criteria clearly and effectively.

  • Strong proposal writing and editing skills; working knowledge of grammar and style.

  • A strong working knowledge of desktop publishing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), graphics programs (e.g., InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop), word processing programs (e.g., Microsoft Word), spreadsheet management (Excel), and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint).

  • A working knowledge of collaborative tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, etc.

  • An understanding of CRM. Salesforce experience is a plus.

  • Initiative, skill, and personal commitment to manage multiple projects and details concurrently, follow up, and bring tasks and projects to full completion.

  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to exercise discretion with confidential/ sensitive issues.

  • Ability to work independently and with others.

  • Diplomacy with peers and internal clients in handling challenging situations.

  • Resourceful problem solver.
