AECOM RAILWAY Track & Civil Engineer in Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a candidate for the role of Assistant Rail Design & Construction Engineer. Based on-site in our client's offices in Surrey, BC, the responsibilities for the position will include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Project management which includes, but is not limited to, preparing and managing scopes, schedules, and budgets, reviewing documents, conducting and attending meetings, frequent site visits, reporting, preparing bid documents, preparing and updating risk management documentation, providing oversight to projects during construction, contract administration (invoice review, progress payment review and endorsement, preparation of project closeout documents, submittal review), and material ordering.

  • Design and regulatory reviews

  • Providing engineering support to various railroad company departments

  • Cost estimating

  • Coordination of third-party projects

  • Managing track retirements

  • Acting as the point of contact for Municipality and CN customer issues pertaining to engineering.

  • Providing on-call services including emergency response (providing engineering support on-site in real-time)

  • Utility crossing and at-grade crossing reviews (including performing crossing safety assessments)

  • Coordinating and managing work permit applications from third parties or contractors for working on railroad property.

  • Coordination of flagging

  • Reviewing work on-site for general conformity to plans, specifications, regulations, and safety requirements

  • Stakeholder Management

  • Geotechnical responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

o Bachelor Degree + 2 years of related experience or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 4 years of related experience or Highschool + 6 YORE

Preferred Qualifications

o Ideally 5+years of experience, Minimum 4+yrs

o Experience with CN, CP, VIA, or similar

o Experience in geotechnical preferred, including rock scaling, retaining walls, slope stability and embankment design

o Ideally a PEng or eligible within 12 months

o Needs to be able to work independently

o Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D and/or MicroStation and Bentley InRoads

o Experience in rail and civil project design and delivery.

o Experience preparing designs and checking own design work

o Experience preparing quantity take-offs

o Analytical, technical and problem solving skills and abilities

o Ability to understand and apply construction standards

o Proficient in using Excel, Word and Powerpoint
