AECOM Intermediate Civil Engineer in Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Summary

AECOM is searching for an Intermediate Civil Engineer to be based in our Burnaby, BC office. The successful candidate will have an understanding and significant experience in civil engineering, civil technology, hydraulic modelling, planning and construction management principles and is familiar with the design and construction of municipal infrastructure. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers mostly within the municipal water, wastewater and storm water sector.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver hydrology/hydraulics studies

  • Writing and review of technical memorandums and reports

  • Perform development servicing reviews

  • Perform hydraulic model calibration and assessment

  • Develop/review water, sanitary, storm water master/management plans

  • Support in the delivery of modelling strategies

  • Support in the delivery of asset management plans

  • Design of civil systems associated with municipal water and/or wastewater /drainage conveyance facilities

  • Design of systems associated with lift stations, pump stations and other mechanical equipment associated with water and wastewater utilities.

  • Perform constructability reviews

  • Perform construction inspections

  • Lead construction contract administration

  • Prepare documentation for design projects and reports

  • Prepare construction cost estimates

  • Preparation of project specifications and contract documents

Additional responsibilities will include client communication and management; assistance with proposal preparation; contract preparation and negotiation; coordination with regulatory agencies; project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Experience with civil engineering, hydraulic modelling, planning, design, construction inspection, contract administration

  • Eligible for registration as P.Eng preferred

  • MMCD Contract Administration certification

  • Training and experience in project management

  • Experience in proposal writing and job scoping

  • Experience with Hydraulic Modelling platforms and willingness/capability to learn new platforms including: Data management and manipulation experience using Excel, text based software (Notepad++) and/or custom made programs

  • GIS experience using ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, GeoMedia

  • Experience using urban drainage/sewer system hydraulic modelling platforms such as PCSWMM, XPSWMM, InfoWorks ICM (2D modelling experience preferred), MIKEURBAN

  • River flooding and hydrology modelling experience using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (2D preferred), MIKE11/MIKE21

  • Water distribution modelling experience including EPANET or WaterCAD

  • Working knowledge of water / wastewater / drainage conveyance infrastructure in a Municipal environment

  • Working knowledge of blue and green infrastructure: ponds, wetlands, bioswales, raingardens, etc.

  • Working knowledge of integrating groundwater conditions in civil design

  • Excellent written skills needed for technical reports

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Valid BC Class V Driver's License

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients

  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
