Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical EIT to be based out of our Burnaby, BC office. This position is a full-time role. As our Junior Geotechnical Engineer in-training, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior geotechnical engineers.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and execute field programs for geotechnical assessments, including field investigations, logging of soils and rocks and collection of soil samples and rock core.
Install and monitor geotechnical instrumentation.
Monitor installation of deep foundations.
Monitor construction activities including inspection of foundation subgrades, witness proof rolls and perform field density testing.
Coordinate with contractors and owners of construction projects.
Collect and analyze data under the supervision of a professional engineer.
Conduct engineering design under the supervision of a professional engineer.
Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of a professional engineer.
Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
Perform settlement, seepage and slope stability analyses.
Assist in preparing geotechnical recommendations and geotechnical reports.
Communicate effectively with others within the team and with internal and external clients.
Support Senior Engineers with competitive proposals and work plans.
Provide guidance and troubleshooting for quality control testing and performance of earthworks such as fill compaction and excavations.
Travel within BC, and other provinces/territories in Canada.
Potential travel for site investigations, site inspections, and construction monitoring of projects within Canada.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering.
+2 years of related experience within the civil, geological or geotechnical engineering field.
Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
Preferred Skills/experience:
Masters' Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
+4 years of technical and field experience within the field of geotechnical engineering.
Knowledge and experience with various geotechnical software, such as GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W, Sigma/W, Quake/W), Ensoft (LPile, Apile), Settle 3D, GRLWEAP, MSEW, Cliq, Shake, etc.
Construction oversight, QAQC, contract administration.
Coordination of designs with drafting teams and/or personal proficiency with AutoCAD.
Highly developed written communication, time management and organizational skills.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills; conduct yourself with integrity, work within multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships.
Have a high level of initiative and enthusiasm for getting things done.
Proficient with MS Office Suite; excellent knowledge of Excel and Word.
