AECOM Architect - Public Safety Lead in Burnaby, British Columbia
AECOM is seeking a talented and experienced Architect with passion for the design and construction of Public Safety buildings for defence/military, first responders (police, fire, ambulance), corrections, and justice. This individual must be a licensed Architect and will be a key team member on some of AECOM’s most important projects in Canada. Projects may include new buildings, renovations to existing buildings, and building recapitalizations across the country. This opportunity can be based out of any of the following offices: Ottawa/Mississauga/Markham/Whitby, ON; Burnaby/Victoria, BC. Remote working options are available.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Act in a Lead Architect capacity for feasibility studies, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction contract administration. Work closely with supporting architectural staff to advance architectural design work such as reports, drawings, perspective renderings, construction specifications or other design deliverables.
Help clients to develop and realize the overall architectural vision for their projects.
Understand and apply relevant building codes to the design.
Work closely with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers to integrate engineering into the architectural design.
Sign and seal architectural designs.
Establish and maintain a sense of collaboration within the project team, including with clients and external consultants or third-party stakeholders.
Assist the Market Sector Leader with business development activities such as creating connections with clients, providing input into proposals, representing the firm at industry functions or conferences, and maintaining a working knowledge of projects within the firm.

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture
Must have no less than 6 (six) years of Architectural experience working for Public Safety clients
Must be a licensed Architect with the OAA, AIBC and/or other Provinces, with OAA eligibility
Be willing and eligible to apply for Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) for Level II Secret.
LEED certification and/or demonstrated experience with sustainable buildings is a strong asset
Past experience with projects that require security clearance and document safeguarding
Past involvement in architectural projects that have received industry recognition such as design awards, accolades, or media coverage for being exceptional.
Knowledge of National Building Code (NBC) and National Master Specification (NMS) is considered an asset
Experience with defence/military projects for the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) including buildings such as command and control centres, training facilities, vehicle maintenance or storage facilities, accommodations, or other base infrastructure.
Experience in first responders’ facilities such as dispatch/command centres, police stations, fire stations, ambulance depots, training facilities, and fleet maintenance facilities.
Experience with corrections or justice facilities such as prisons and courthouses.
Experience in Alternative Delivery projects such as Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), and Private Public Partnerships (P3) is an asset
Bilingual in both English and French languages considered an asset.
