AECOM Project Manager (BHS Replacement Project) in Bukit Damansarsa, Malaysia

Job Summary

AECOM’s Global Aviation Business Line is actively seeking a Project Manager for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport BHS Replacement Project for a start in KL, Malaysia. The appropriately qualified applicant will be directing a locally based project management team as well as working closely with the senior management team of the client MAHB, AECOM in Malaysia and the AECOM Global Aviation team.

The KLIA BHS Replacement project is a major project and a mission critical project by MAHB and is scheduled for delivery in 2023. Stage 1 of the project consisting of the concept design and specification together with tendering and evaluation of Design Build Contractors/Suppliers is virtually complete. The PM role going forward is for Phase 2 which is the detailed design and implementation phase. Detailed design and installation shall be via a Turnkey contractor.

The role will be full-time and based in KL for 35 months. There are potential downstream work opportunities if this project can be completed successfully.

Job Duties:

  • As PMC, lead and manage a team of qualified professionals in delivering quality outcomes for the BHS Replacement project Stage 2 (Construction Stage) for AECOM at KLIA while ensuring the efficient use of resources for the project.

  • Liaise with the Client MAHB on a daily basis with respect to day to day performance and delivery expectations.

  • Work in collaboration with the wider MAHB team to ensure the BHS Replacement project and its deliverables are properly interfaced and compatible with the wider airport project program and objectives.

  • Liaise with the Contractor on all aspects of design, construction methodology, works programs, resourcing, communication protocols, timely completion of the works within the overall contractual completion date and within budget.

  • Lead the design review and approval process.

  • Assess and support the approval process for design changes

  • Inspect the works for quality and consistency with the design, specifications and schedule.

  • Assess technical aspects of contractor claims including cost advice.

  • Prepare regular reports on works progress and issues.

  • Arrange and prepare for meetings and presentations to MAHB and possibly other stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum15 years’ experience in the practice of Mechanical or Electrical engineering.

  • Experience in the project/construction management of largescale airport related building or infrastructure projects.

  • Experience in aspects of the design, project management or installation of largescale airport Baggage Handling Systems is preferred.

  • Previous experience in leading project management and design teams and delivering projects to required quality standards, on time and within budget.

  • Experience and understanding of project construction contracts, quality control, programming and budgeting.

  • Experience of developing and maintaining client relationships

  • Experience with international companies and /or working in an international setting (highly desirable).

  • Experience in working in South East Asia (highly desirable)

  • Previous experience of team management and team building (highly desirable)

  • Direct experience preferred in at least some of the following areas:

  • BHS mechanical systems

  • HLC/IT systems

  • Inline security screening systems

  • Baggage Operations

  • Security protocols and systems in BHS areas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or equivalent

  • Membership of a recognized professional institution, i.e. BEM
