Job Description
The Urbanism + Planning group of AECOM is actively seeking a motivated, technical, and highly-talented Urban Planner to join our practice and contribute to our community engagement and planning portfolio of work. As part of the project team, the planner will support the project manager in developing and implementing innovative and multi-faceted community engagement and outreach strategies in support of high-profile design & construction projects throughout the New York City metro area. The project planner will:
Play a key role in development and execution of community planning and outreach strategies on multiple concurrent projects
Support the project manager in overseeing project team deliverables, schedule, workflow, & staff, including subconsultants
Communicate effectively with the project team and manager
Conduct quality-assurance review of all deliverables including technical reports, memoranda, meeting minutes, and correspondence with community members, community organizations, and elected officials.
Act as a liaison between community groups, government agencies, and elected officials on design & construction projects.
Identify community problems, issues, and opportunities in particular neighborhoods that could be mitigated through better community planning, design, and outreach.
Compile data and conduct research in support of project delivery
Create innovative and informative graphics for internal and public-facing presentations and workshops
Write and present formal and technical reports, working papers, and correspondence.
Write, design, and format public communications, including emails, letters, reports and documents
Organize and facilitate on-site stakeholder meetings and workshops
Manage discrete project tasks as required
Supervise updates and maintenance of internal project Sharepoint site and external project website
Conduct extensive research in specific or general project areas.
Develop long-range plans for communities with common developmental issues.
Develop strategies to promote economic and community development consistent with community goals.
Evaluate the adequacy of community facilities and agency assets in meeting current and projected needs.
Recommend priorities, schedules, and funding sources to implement public improvements plan
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
BA/BS plus 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Experience with writing, research, analysis, in a professional environment
Professional experience with ArcGIS, MS Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite
Preferred Qualifications :
Master’s degree in urban and regional planning or related field is highly preferred
Strong background in community planning, engagement and outreach, governance planning, and/or management consulting is highly preferred
Experience with NYC agencies, community boards and governance highly preferred
Experience with NYS, NJ, and federal agencies a plus
Licensed Planner, Landscape Architect, Architect, Engineer, or other equivalent disciplines
Experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment
Proficient with AutoCAD and Sketchup Pro
AICP certification (or certification track) preferred
LEED, SITES, and/or ENVISION certification (or certification track) a plus
GISP certification (or certification track) preferred
Positive outlook and can-do attitude approach to tasks and teamwork
Effective problem solving and analytical skills
Efficient and organized worker with a high level of attention to detail
Ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
Adept at developing creative and innovative graphics and project layouts
Ability to manage discrete project tasks as required
Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities
Familiarity/understanding/experience in strategic planning and client advisory
Experience developing technical material and documentation in fulfillment of program/project deliverables per defined scopes of work
Understanding of program/project management (task-level setup, delivery, and closeout)
Familiarity/understanding/experience in technical research, assessment, analysis, and reporting
Familiarity/understanding/experience with digital technologies used in urban planning and/or asset management practice (GIS, data collection, databases, dashboards, BI interface applications, CMMS, BAS/BMS, remote sensing, and/or other)
Strong technical comprehension of the candidate’s discipline area and technical writing abilities
Spanish and/or Chinese language skills a plus
Additional Information
Offered rate of compensation (NY locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000.
