AECOM are recruiting for a
Transmission Engineer to join our established and ever growing Transmission & Distribution unit.
The position can be based in any one of our established offices in Bristol, London, Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Our transmission and distribution sector primarily focus is the management, design and supervision of electrical power projects in both transmission and distribution, with a primary focus on transmission projects including all the major UK and Ireland transmission system operators. The unit also provides electrical engineering services to a wide range of renewables, industrial, property and other development projects requiring a medium or high voltage electrical infrastructure.
This role is to be offered at either Senior Engineer or Principal Engineer level depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
In addition to the design and specification of transmission systems, the successful candidate will be required to manage a range of multi-disciplinary projects in the T&D sector, particularly transmission projects. The size of project will initially be determined by whether the role is offered at Senior or Principal Engineer level, with the Principal Engineer having responsibility for large more multi-disciplinary projects. Responsibilities will include the client interface, preparation of bids and proposals and then managing the delivery of the projects in accordance with the company's management, quality, safety and environmental procedures.

To be successful in this role we would like to hear from candidates with the following;
Chartered Engineer status or be on route to obtaining Chartered status
Experience of working in the UK & international transmission and/or distribution sector
Experience of high voltage transmission projects including feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, modeling, site supervision, testing and acceptance.
Relevant experience at voltages to at least 400kV is essential and experience in HVDC would be an advantage.
The Transmission Engineer will have a proven track record in the design and specification of both high voltage cable and overhead line systems up to 400kV. Proven experience in the practical implementation of these systems including aspects such as temporary site works, cable handling techniques, tower erection requirements, is essential.
Experience of the industry standard design tools, such as CYMCAP and PLS-CAD is essential.
In additional experience of HVDC and offshore cable systems will be an advantage.
In order to be considered for the Principal Engineer role, the candidate will need to demonstrate a successful track record of developing new business and successfully leading projects to completion.
Any or all of the following specialist skills would be warmly welcomed:
Submarine cable design, specificationa nd installation
Fibre optic communications in high voltage cables
Cable fault finding and forensic analysis
Installation of HV cables in tunnels
Cable installations using HDD.
- Engineering degree qualified, likely to be in Electrical Engineering but this is not essential.
