We are currently looking for an Mechanical Engineer with proven post-qualification experience in mechanical engineering to work within the AECOM Building Services Team in one of our Bristol offices.
Our Portwall Place Bristol base has a core Building Engineering group of more than 40 engineers, including 15 in the Building Services Engineering team. The Buildings and Places team is a multi-disciplinary office numbering more than 100 staff, and which is expanding as the AECOM Hub office for the South West region. Along with its thriving sports and social club it is a friendly, busy and motivated office whose Buildings team get involved in local and national projects. In terms of Building Engineering, it is a UK centre of excellence for education, healthcare, defence and rail buildings as well as sustainability.
Some of our recent projects include;
Midland Metropolitan Hospital, Birmingham: A new build £300m acute hospital.
University of Reading, Health and Life Sciences Building: A £35m new health and Life Sciences building providing high quality space for multiple functions including, teaching, research, offices and a museum.
The Pithay, Bristol: The redevelopment of a 16,000m2 office building in the centre of Bristol to provide state of the art office facilities and two new floors of private residential accommodation.
University of Reading Malaysia Campus: A new build £70m campus development in Johor, Malaysia. All design and specification work done in Bristol, with site monitoring by AECOM’s Kuala Lumpur Office.
National Composite Centres (Buildings 1 and 2), Bristol. Two new buildings developed in association with the University of Bristol, housing state of the art facilities for research and development of new composite technologies.
A Mechanical Engineer will be involved in drawings and commissioning designs. The successful candidate will ideally be working towards Chartership, and have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with a mechanical engineering or building services degree or other qualification, who is enthusiastic, self motivated, and looking to advance their career.
Receive brief from Senior Engineers, be able to contribute to the fee proposal and determine resources.
Attend progress, design team and co-ordinate meetings.
Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns.
Attend site inspection meetings.
Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme.
Prepare specifications, schedules, drawings and any other contract documents developed through the RIBA stages.
Be competent with mechanical engineering calculations (e.g IES, REVIT).
Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.
Liaise with clients, professional organizations, contractors, suppliers, sub contractors and other design
Identify and meet effectively the requirements and expectations of clients
A Mechanical Engineer or Building Services Engineer.
A track record of having worked on a variety of Building Services designs covering for example, Education, Defence, Healthcare and Commercial projects.
Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a member of a professional Institution or close to achieving professional chartered status.
Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, able to inspire, influence and negotiate
Ideally a Batchelors Degree or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering, and working towards Chartered status, or equivalent experience
