Job Summary

Our team in Bristol provides concept, preliminary and detailed design and network modelling on a wide range of projects for local authorities and the private sector as well as supporting other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface. At AECOM we offer flexible working and is happy to look at a range of different working patterns including compressed weeks and occasional home working.

Our Roads team have a vacancy for an Associate Director in our Bristol office. Our large multi-discipline office is situated just a few minutes’ walk from Temple Meads Station and the vibrant city centre which boasts a fantastic range of shopping and eating and drinking establishments.

You will be joining an established team that will be involved in the winning and delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:

  • Local Authority Clients in the South West Region including WECA, Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, Cardiff County Council and Cornwall Council

  • Transport for London

  • Midlands Highways Alliance

  • Wessex Water

You will be recently chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven design, project management and team leadership experience delivering to quality, time and budget.

The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career as part of a growing team. In addition to delivering work within the local office, the role will occasionally involve working with other AECOM teams in the UK and Ireland. We are therefore seeking people who can work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • For large commissions act as Project Manager – Lead team in the preparation of preliminary & detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes; Financial and programme management;

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health, and the environment in the design

  • Ensure the technical content and quality of all outputs are in line with the project brief, design regulations and standards, and reviewing the work of others

  • Lead the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required.

  • Share knowledge to ensure the wider team are up to date with current best practice, techniques, and innovation

  • Taking responsibility for own career and professional development

  • Supporting the career planning, training, and development of team members

  • Support Senior Management of local team including recruitment

  • Input into detailed client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids

Minimum Requirements

  • A successful track record in the Project Management of a portfolio of traffic engineering and local transport projects through preliminary and / or detailed design stages.

  • Experience of team management including; line management; technical development and mentoring of staff; efficient resourcing of projects;

  • Experience of monitoring financial and programme performance.

  • Experience of interacting with other disciplines as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts with professionals and non-specialists.

  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of relevant design standards and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Engineering or another relevant qualification.

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards an appropriate Chartered status with membership of a professional
