Our Streets team has a vacancy for a Senior Traffic / Highway Engineer in our Birmingham City Centre office.

The team provides concept, preliminary and detailed design and network modelling services on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors plus supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.

You will be joining a growing team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:

  • West Midlands Combined Authority / Transport for West Midlands

  • Wolverhampton City Council

  • Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

You will:

  • Undertake design duties in the preparation of preliminary & detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes

  • Prepare detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required.

  • Lead on and ensure the technical content and quality of all outputs are in line with the project brief, design regulations and standards, checking the work of others.

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and consistent working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health and environment in design.

  • Input into detailed client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids.

Minimum Requirements

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and consistent working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health and environment in design.

  • Knowledge of relevant design and safety standards (e.g. DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW, Manual for Streets, CDM Regulations)

  • Experience in the design of highway engineering and local transport schemes, including preparation of design drawings, reports, and technical notes

  • Lead on and ensure the technical content and quality of all outputs are in line with the project brief, design regulations and standards, checking the work of others.

  • An interest in managing project teams to deliver successful outcomes for Clients

  • Experience of monitoring financial and programme performance,

  • The ability to motivate and mentor junior staff, sharing knowledge to ensure the wider team are up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation

  • Input into detailed client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant MSc/MEng, degree or HND and membership of a professional institution and working towards an appropriate Chartered / Incorporated status.
