Position Title Senior Geotechnical Engineer

AECOM is seeking to hire an Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Birmingham.We require an experienced Chartered or Senior level Geotechnical Engineer to join our Birmingham team and to undertake studies and design for ground engineering infrastructure projects. AECOM Birmingham is a major engineering hub with over 300 staff working predominantly within the Water, Transportation (Road and Rail), Property and Environment and Ground Engineering sectors. The successful candidate will form part of our established and highly experienced ground engineering team with a diverse workload in regional and national infrastructure projects.
The Geotechnical Engineer will deliver consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget. The role will have an emphasis on geotechnical design and analysis for works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, mine workings treatment and ground improvement.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of a variety of ground engineering projects and should be experienced in the management of projects for developers and other private clients.
Scoping, tendering and supervision of ground investigations;
Data interpretation, parameter derivation and design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement;
Contribute or lead the production of desk study, interpretive, design reports, technical notes and input to specifications and contract documentation;
Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team interfacing directly with other ground engineering team members, other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;
You will take responsibility for delivery of projects or parts of projects under senior overview and will assist in the internal checking and review of work by other members of the geotechnical team. In due course you will become involved in bidding for jobs and programme and budget control.
You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to junior staff, if and when required;
Specific Skills Required :
A geotechnical engineer with several years’ experience in geotechnical design.
Possess strong problem solving, independent decision making, and inter-personal skills.
Experienced in ground investigation, geotechnical studies and design of geotechnical works for transportation and built development schemes including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, strengthened earthworks, track bed and road pavement.
Experience of routinely used software including WALLAP and SlopeW.
In depth knowledge and experience of relevant Eurocodes and UK standards and specifications, in particular those of Network Rail and Highways England.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to write a clear and concise technical report is essential.
Experience of design delivery and management of ground related risks in a design and build environment is desirable.
Knowledge of a wide variety of UK ground conditions but particularly those of the UK Midlands is also desirable.
Valid UK driving licence. Willing to travel to other offices and sites within the UK and to occasionally undertake short assignments overseas.

- The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the industry with a demonstrable experience in the technical support of projects and be conversant with the standards that apply. We are looking for an ambitious team player with strong development skills who wishes to assist in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.
A degree in Civil Engineering although individuals with an Engineering Geology or similar background will be considered.
You will have an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar.
A Chartered Engineer (or close to achieving chartered status) with ICE, IOM3, CGeol or equivalent.
