AECOM is seeking a Principal Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Consultant to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Central Ecology Team. The role could be based either in Nottingham, Chesterfield or Birmingham. We offer our clients a full range of ecological services including specialist habitat and species surveys, impact assessment, advice on biodiversity mitigation, offsetting, enhancement and management planning for biodiversity. Our projects include high profile transport and other infrastructure, as well as commercial and residential development projects. We pride ourselves on developing innovative techniques to improve the delivery, efficiency and environmental outcomes of our projects.
The role requires knowledge and experience in blue and green infrastructure (GI), biodiversity net gain (BNG), ecosystem services and natural capital, especially in relation to land-use and planning in the UK for infrastructure and other development projects. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with a history of successfully working in a consultancy environment (or similar) including; client liaison, work winning, collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams and completion of projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets.
As a Principal Consultant, you will be highly motivated, organised and proactive, with experience in managing staff, projects and budgets. Excellent analytical and communication skills are essential, in addition to sound technical knowledge. You will have the opportunity to lead on high profile, challenging and innovative projects and support the future growth of our GI and BNG services.
Working as part of the existing network of AECOM ecologists and collaborating with our wider teams to promote sustainable development.;
Working independently and with others to coordinate input to assessments, design and implementation of successful mitigation and compensation strategies for biodiversity, including approaches for delivering green infrastructure and net gain;
Leading in the winning, delivery and management of the ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects;
Inputting to reports and numerical calculations; and providing technical review of deliverables as required in accordance with set deadlines;
Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of projects;
Building and maintaining both internal and external client relationships, through effective communication within projects to clients, project managers and other key stakeholders
Developing and promoting innovation across the ecology business;
A strong presence in representing AECOM externally through projects, client management, publications and presentations;
Compliance with internal business management procedures, including in relation to health and safety and technical quality of all advice and outputs; and development of the team to support wider environmental business goals, as required.
Managing and mentoring staff;
Undertaking other tasks which add value to the development of the ecology team or support wider environmental business goals, as required.

A thorough knowledge of the planning system in the UK, and current position with respect to relevant policy and legislation
Experience of working in an environmental job role in the public/ private sector; providing advice on the benefits and importance of biodiversity, green infrastructure, natural capital and ecosystem services
Experience of inputting to assessments and/or design on infrastructure projects to deliver good environmental outcomes
Technical proficiency, evidenced by biodiversity inputs to assessments and reports, and to the delivery of projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets;
Strong project management skills and experience of working within multidisciplinary schemes. Familiarity with project management procedures and protocols, including the checking and approval of proposals and project outputs and budget management;
Excellent communication skills, using clear and appropriate language, styles and techniques to provide advice and engage clients, project teams and stakeholders
Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage own time, prioritise competing deadlines
Electronic data capture, analysis and presentation;
Experience in line management as well as technical leadership of teams on major projects
A recognised degree in an environmental or related discipline;
Full Member of CIEEM or IEMA (or eligible to meet relevant criteria),or other relevant professional body
