Job Description

AECOM are seeking an experienced principal arboricultural consultant to join our award winning, growing and supportive tree team. This is an exciting opportunity to join an international business with the potential to work on a huge range of projects across the UK and beyond. Successful applicants could be working on a diverse range of projects, such as:

  • Canopy cover assessment for a highway authority in the Midlands;

  • Tree condition surveys across the UK and beyond;

  • New development schemes in the grounds of Consulates and National Trust properties;

  • Tree Assessment and Woodland Management Plans for a world heritage sites;

  • Arboricultural structural damage assessment for a 13th century church.

The Team:

Our growing team includes a full range of consultant grades from Consultant to Associate Director level and there is great potential for career support and development. We have an integrated technical team who produce our plans and a dedicated internal software development team. Due to the projects and client we are actively working with, this role can be based from our following offices: Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Plymouth.

AECOMs Arboriculture team were awarded the Gold Green Apple Award in 2019 for our work in relation to tree protection measures for the Thames Tideway Tunnel project in London. We sit within a wider group of technical experts including Planners, Engineers, Ecologists and Landscape Architects. Projects are frequently large-scale and inter-disciplinary and there is extensive potential for knowledge sharing and support across the business.

The core responsibilities of the role would be to:

  • Undertake tree surveys for both planning purposes and to assess tree condition.

  • Prepare arboricultural reports to BS 5837:2012 Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA) and Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS)

  • Prepare Tree Condition Reports and risk assessments.

  • Work independently or with other arboricultural and environmental professionals, in the planning, delivery and management of arboricultural services.

  • Support bidding and leading arboricultural delivery for projects.

  • Support the growth and development of the team with potential for line management responsibilities.

  • Utilises advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialised functional area.

  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.

  • Plans and organises project studies.

  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.

  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.

  • Mentor junior team members

Qualifications

  • A sound level of knowledge of arboricultural principles, including awareness of BS5837:2012, BS8545:2014 and BS3998:2010.

  • Competency in tree identification, inspection, condition assessment and necessary management options.

  • Technicians Certificate in Arboriculture (or equivalent QCF Level 3/4 qualification) or higher.

  • Knowledge of relevant UK legislation, best practice and policy relating to arboriculture.

  • Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • IT skills should include Microsoft Office.

  • A full clean UK driving license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Lantra Professional Tree Inspection certificate.

  • QCF Level 6 Arboricultural qualification or higher
