AECOM Geotechnical Engineer in Birmingham, United Kingdom

Job Summary

  • Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports including specifications and contract documents.

  • Experience, knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology.

  • Geotechnical Engineer candidates must have strong analytical skills and some experience in the geotechnical design of earthworks and structures. Experience in numerical modelling is desirable but not essential.

  • Engineering Geology candidates will be familiar with software such as gINT or Holebase; some experience in using packages such as Leapfrog would be advantageous.

  • Experience with relevant Eurocodes, UK standards and specifications and UK ground conditions.

  • You will preferably have some knowledge of Network Rail and Highways England design and reporting processes.

  • Candidates should be willing to travel within the UK and hold a clean driving licence.

Minimum Requirements

  • Provide close support to our Ground Engineering team in project delivery, work winning, and in maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.

  • Support Ground Engineering practice development and innovation.

  • Contribute to team and client meetings with an ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams or with Contractors and where you are able to put forward ideas and concepts.

  • Prepare scoping and tendering documents and undertake supervision of ground investigations

  • Carry out interpretation, parameter derivation and design including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks, and ground improvement.

  • Contribute to, or lead the production of desk study, interpretive and design reports and input to specifications and contract documentation.

  • Be responsible for the delivery of small projects, or parts of larger projects, under senior guidance and assist in the checking and review of work by others.

  • Ensure rigorous adherence to AECOM’s industry leading quality assurance programme

Preferred Qualifications

  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering with a bias towards geotechnics (Geotechnical Engineer candidates).

  • BSc/MSci in Geology, Engineering Geology or Earth Science (Engineering Geology candidates).

  • MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is desirable.
