We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to play an important role within our growing M&E team. Increasing demands for our services have created an opportunity in Croydon, St Albans or Birmingham to be involved in the delivery of major capital schemes and refurbishments within the water, industrial, and energy market sectors.

In particular we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer capable of working independently where required, and also able to lead design or project teams. The successful candidate will help lead and develop our MEICA team in the South East. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead and develop MEICA teams spread across several AECOM offices in the South East.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with our UK&I team on a regular basis.

  • Supervise staff undertaking feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs and preparing reports and technical specifications.

  • Ensure appropriate level of resources in place to deliver projects to plan, including identifying recruitment needs and taking part in interviews/decision making on hires.

  • Deal will diverse Client organisations including Water Companies, Contractors and Government Agencies at all levels.

  • Support business development and growth opportunities, including preparing or contributing to tender proposals, marketing material and client relationship development.

  • Ensure compliance and best practice with all company procedures, particularly those associated with quality, risk, financial management and AECOM core values.

  • Promote and ensure compliance with regard to both worker & workplace and project health & safety and ensure that staff are competent to carry out their duties safely.

  • In conjunction with the Business Unit Lead and MEICA Technical Head, lead initiatives which are directed towards maximising staff development, morale, and performance.LI-RM1

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in producing technical specifications and managing all stages of multi-disciplinary projects from proposals and initial studies through to full design and construction management is required.

  • Detailed knowledge of the following within the municipal water/drainage industry;

  • Pumps and pumping systems

  • Pipework systems

  • Ventilation systems

  • Hydraulic systems

  • Experience of medium to large water and wastewater treatment work projects.

  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams, and able to lead junior staff from a range of professional backgrounds.

  • Experience of developing specifications.

  • Experience of delivering detail design work within a team including CAD staff.

  • Experience of delivering projects in BIM.

  • Experience of delivering designs utilising external design offices (nationally and internationally).

  • Excellent communication skills and able to represent AECOM in Client facing roles at all levels.

  • Accustomed to working at the highest levels of HSSE compliance at all design stages.

  • Experience in HAZOP, HAZID, DSEAR and SWIFT processes

  • Experience in design works related to deep shafts and tunnels

  • Experience delivering projects for a range of end clients including water companies and National Grid.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc, BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Chartered Member of IMechE or equivalent
