AECOM Associate Ecologist in Birmingham, United Kingdom

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced and talented Associate to strengthen and enhance the growth of the ecology team in our Birmingham and Croydon offices.

The ideal candidate will be given the platform to showcase their ability to scope out and win new work as well as project manage and oversee the rapid build of surveys and project coordination teams and manage project level delivery of major infrastructure projects, whether uni-disciplinary (ecology) or across environmental disciplines, particularly focusing on large scale projects both in terms of geographical range, the management of staff resources and the volume of surveys and deliverables.

AECOM is also looking for an exceptional candidate who can support and drive innovation, particularly with regard to considering current and future project/cross-project challenges. We are looking for someone who will adopt new ways of thinking, and can develop and implement better systems as well as more streamlined approaches.

  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge.

  • Makes recommendations on work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own discipline.

  • Makes recommendations on research requests, objectives, priorities, and timing.

  • Assess need for change and recommends development of standards.

  • Assess work against standards, objectives and specifications.

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies when working on unusually complex technical problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Develops solutions which are highly innovative. Assignments are often self-initiated. Acts as advisor to management and clients. Oversees the work of less experienced scientists

AECOM has a proactive "working global" initiative which means that there are opportunities to work on and in International Projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience of business development, building relationships with new and existing clients as well as producing their own bids and tenders for new projects.

  • The ability to understand a complex scope of works and associated forecasting/progress reporting requirements, and then assist the client in rationalising these requirements into a consolidated and achievable suite of deliverables;

  • The competency to consider, identify and achieve efficiencies in the delivery of high-volume surveys, thereby maximising financial gains without compromising quality or programme;

  • A strong focus of technical quality, particularly when managing and assuring high-volume data outputs, or during periods of peak resource demand;

  • Is able to maintain a sufficiently deep understanding of operational processes to identify when individuals may be masking problems and issues, and hence is able to pre-empt or otherwise address issues before they impact programme, budget or reputation;

  • Articulate complex technical and non-technical considerations to the client, client representatives and other stakeholders to ensure they comprehend the unique challenges encountered, as well as appreciate AECOM’s efforts and contribute to proposed solutions;

  • A strong commercial awareness and is able to ensure completion of high-volume project deliverables whilst satisfying both client and AECOM financial expectations;

  • The ability to keep calm and productive amidst a sustained barrage of short-notice client requests with equally short timeframes for response;

  • The ability to critically review large volume baseline information to inform licensing and consenting requirements and also has the ability to analyse this to understand potential impacts to project programmes and pre-empt programme issues through on-going liaison.
