Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Environmental Field Technician. The Environmental Field Technician will report directly to the local field manager and will work under the supervision of the appropriate Project Manager/Task Leader on specific projects. There will be involvement in a variety of environmental remediation and compliance projects and direction from project personnel from other offices. The work performed could be within chemical and water treatment plants. Sampling of drinking water from private residences is anticipated. Significant daily driving is expected. The work will require a strong safety focus to complete work safely and effectively. Field Technicians will interact with AECOM environmental staff, operators and other client representatives. There will be a considerable amount of interaction and direction from staff located in the Newark, Delaware office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs routine fieldwork as a trainee (such as environmental sampling, assisting with calculations, and operations, maintenance and inspection of equipment of client site) working under close supervision

  • Performs routine tasks in support of project staff and handles less complex duties

  • General knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Associates degree preferred

  • Excellent communication skills are required (written and verbal)

  • Must have excellent organization skills

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

  • Must participate in and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment fitness for duty questionnaire.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

  • Must be able to pass a TWIC background check

  • Must be able to pass a medical clearance

  • Must be able to wear and work with respirator equipment

  • Be able to obtain 40 Hazwoper upon hire

  • Work weekends, evenings and overtime as needed

  • Strong work ethic

  • Ability to work well with others

  • MS Word and Excel experience

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, noise and chemicals; position requires frequent standing/walking and operation of vehicles; often performing keyboard/mouse operations and lifting of less than 25 pounds; occasionally lifting 25-50 pounds, repetitive bending/stooping, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and working alone in isolated/remote areas; rarely lifting 50-75 pounds, working with arms above shoulder level, working at heights, climbing stairs, using portable ladders (weight must be 300 lbs or less), wearing fall protection (weight must be 310 pounds or less), and performing repetitive or fine hand movements. Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, transporting/installing replacement parts on equipment, and carrying/calibrating hand-held monitoring equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chemical Plant experience

  • Collection of soil and groundwater samples experience
