AECOM is currently seeking an Mechanical Design Engineer to be based in Belfast. you will be involved all aspects of building consultancy environmental engineering including sketches, design, specifications and drawing production for our Education and healthcare projects.
Your role will involve ensuring the completion of projects by actively driving operations, acting as a key point of contact and information, developing designs and working through calculations.
You will also be responsible for improving our quality control and standards, working within a team and by helping to business develop though exceptional delivery and a positive approach when speaking with clients.

Contribute to project operations:
Undertake the control of all production aspects of the projects in the office.
To act as discipline team leader for projects, from feasibility through to operational phase for Building Services Projects.
To manage the design and construction stage activities with both external and internal teams.
Act as a key internal and external point of contact:
Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.
Ensure the design team is kept fully informed of all technical and other information necessary for the duration of the project.
Represent AECOM at Client, Design Team and Progress meetings throughout the design and construction phases of projects.
To act as the main point of contact with design teams.
Design and Calculations:
Produce all design information.
Ensure that all calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the IMS, relevant Standards and Codes of Practice.
To prepare and present drawings, designs, reports and specifications.
Be competent to deliver, review & approve mechanical engineering calculations (IES/ Hevacomp).
To support our 3D and BIM capabilities.
Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations, make submissions to the Statutory Authorities and obtain approvals as necessary.
Contribute to the update of AECOM standards.
To maintain and enhance expertise within the team and as an individual.
To act as a mentor to junior staff, promoting CPD activities.
To manage & build client and architect relationships with the aim to get repeat work
Experience within Education (Primary, Secondary & Universities) and Healthcare (Hospitals, Clinics & Labs) projects is preferred but other experience will be considered if you are looking to gain more knowledge in these areas.
Relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering design, including areas such as specification writing, calculations, and developing designs from first principles including ventilation & pipe system distribution, control systems, energy calculations and be conversant with codes and practices.
HNC/HND or Degree educated in building services, mechanical engineering, or similar / related discipline. (Experience rather than education route will be considered)
Work experience within a similar consultancy or other relevant business
Excellent technical understanding of mechanical building services for the different sectors along with a good overview of the other disciplines in building services
An experienced Mechanical Engineer or Building Services Engineer presently holding either an engineer level or senior position
Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
Proficient in Autocad, IES/Hevacomp
Experience of providing energy assessments and energy audits
Experience in completing BREEAM assessments.
CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor
Qualified to produce SAPs, EPCs or DECs
