About AECOM’s Design Discipline and its Architecture Practice:
The Design Discipline provides a key lead, design focused, function within AECOM’s Buildings and Places business. The discipline includes architects and architectural technologists, interior designers, landscape architects and urban designers. It leads multi-disciplinary project work and focuses on the design of innovative projects worldwide, which incorporate systems and processes at the cutting edge of emergent technologies.
Our Belfast team operates in the Healthcare, Leisure, Commercial Interiors, Education, Residential Local Government and Data Centre sectors.
The Practice is proud of its high quality work, is fully BIM enabled and produces high quality visualizations.
Forward workload is very buoyant and growing with several large frameworks and projects recently won. The Practice is therefore recruiting exceptional and ambitious Architectural Assistants to join its busy Belfast design studio.
Examples of the types of projects the team are involved in include:
Regional Childrens’ Hospital, Belfast – Ongoing – The new children’s hospital with a construction value of £160 million will replace the existing facility. The new children’s hospital shall be located on the Royal Hospitals site in Belfast and shall have physical links with the acute adult and maternity hospitals.
Royal Victoria Hospital Maternity Unit, Belfast – Ongoing – New-build development at Northern Ireland’s largest acute hospital with an overall value of £60 million. The design encompasses a variety of maternity services including delivery theatres, birthing rooms, antenatal services and neonatology. Additional services in the main hospital will be linked via a new two storey link bridge
Dundonald International Ice Bowl, Belfast – Ongoing – Design of new facility to replace the popular family entertainment centre. The new building will include an Olympic sized Ice Rink, Ten Pin Bowling, Gymnasium, Soft Play and Adventure Play with support accommodation set in high quality landscaped park incorporating outdoor play spaces.
ExxonMobil, Prague – Ongoing – Fit-out of the new Global Business Centre for Exxon Mobil in Prague which supports their operations in Europe, Middle-East and Africa. AECOM are providing Workplace strategy and Concept Interior design for the new 8 storey HQ to accommodate over 1300 staff, to promote the company’s core ethos of collaborative working, family-friendly culture and healthy lifestyle. Once complete the office will not only be an example of best practice but also drive workplace efficiency and to deliver a building which fits the company’s values and ethos.
HMRC Erskine House, Belfast – 2019 – Conceptual Design and Technical Advisor for the CAT A & CATB fit out of this new building in the heart of Belfast, to provide office accommodation for the HMRC. Supported at ground floor level by retail spaces, the development focuses on the government’s aspirations for inclusive design and the provision of high-quality office and public presentation spaces. Attending monthly site meetings and quality inspections, as well as working with the HMRC and contractors to ensure all parties are working together to satisfy the HMRC requirements.
ESB Headquarters, Dublin – Ongoing - Fit out of the new HQ building for up to 1500 staff, the Head Office facilities will be used as a catalyst to drive organisational change and to deliver a building which fits the ethos of the company. The office will be an exemplar of best practice and position ESB as an innovative and progressive organisation reflecting the company’s values and vision of the future.
Strangford & New Bridge Integrated Colleges, Carrowdore & Banbridge - Ongoing – AECOM Architects are leading fully integrated multi-disciplinary design teams for these two new post primary schools. Designs are being developed to full BIM Level 2 and will be procured via a Design & Build process.
As a Part 2 Architectural Assistant you will work with senior members of our teams on a wide range of projects at all stages of the design and construction process. From day one, you will be involved in important and challenging projects. Every day will be different, and you will be required to use your skills and knowledge to solve problems and provide key input into our projects. You will work in a team to provide technical solutions, and your day could involve anything from producing designs, specifications and calculations, to assisting in technical reports, travelling to construction sites or participating in client meetings.
Assisting in the preparation of conceptual design work and the presentation of projects.
Supporting the design development of project proposals and feasibility studies.
Supporting the technical delivery and implementation of projects including preparing working drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
DAAS, MA, M.Arch or equivalent architectural qualification.
Pursuing RIBA Part 3 / Registered Architect status either during or after placement.
Good spatial and technical ability with good analytical and organizational skills.
Good hand drawing and computer graphic skills.
Sound knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe and the MS suite of programmes.
Must have the Right to work in the UK for this position
All Interested candidates must provide PDF versions of their current work portfolio with their application
Knowledge of Autodesk Revit and In-Design.
Good 3D computer skills will be an advantage.
Interest in all aspects of architecture and construction technology from concept to detail design.
Ambitious, energetic and hard-working. Highly motivated with good communication skills.
Previous work experience in an architectural practice.
