AECOM Senior Bridges Engineer in Bedford, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Bridge Engineer for our Rail, Bridges and Structures team in our centrally located Bedford office.

Our Bedford office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 30 years throughout the UK as well as supporting other disciplines with our specialist input. Our office has capability in the design and assessment of bridges and other transportation structures for highway and rail schemes and we work closely with other disciplines from the Roads, Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Development Sectors.

The Rail, Bridges and Structures team workload ranges from feasibility studies to scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support and management services on a wide range of structures. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with a sound technical background and who share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

A selection of our current and recent projects includes –

  • Structures designs for National Highways schemes including A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet Improvements, A46 Coventry Junctions and Area 6 and 8 OD Capital East Maintenance Works.

  • Design and Assessment work on Huntingdon Railway Viaduct - a major structure carrying the existing A14 over the East Coast Mainline Railway, as part of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvements Scheme.

  • CAFA rail bridge inspection and assessment of structures on the LNE lines.

  • Midlands Highways Alliance – Design of new structures and assessment and maintenance upgrades to existing structures for Milton Keynes Council, Buckinghamshire County Council and Oxfordshire County Council.

Minimum Requirements

Experience in Bridge Engineering and the related application of Eurocodes and National Highways Standards.

Experience in computer analysis techniques – preferably in Autodesk Structural Bridge Design and LUSAS or MIDAS.

Good technical and communication skills

Demonstrable experience delivering to quality, time and budget, with some previous experience of project management.

Previous exposure to clients at both national and local level.

Ability to manage project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.

Preferred Qualifications

Engineering Degree or equivalent

Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with ICE, or having fully completed the Initial Professional Development (IPD) requirements for the same and planning to sit Professional review in the next 6 months(ideally).
