Job Description

AECOM’s Ground Engineering specialists provide one-stop access to services in feasibility / desktop studies, ground investigation, interpretation, detailed design, contract administration and construction supervision for geotechnical works. We work for leading UK&I and international clients and have commissions of varying scale across all sectors, including HS2, Lower Thames Crossing and Thames Tideway. You could be involved with key projects imperative to our zero-carbon future such as new nuclear build, decarbonization of the UK's rail network, and our award-winning work on Net Zero Teesside. In addition to amazing opportunities to work on mega projects in the middle east and high-speed rail in Scandinavia.

We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Plymouth Ground Engineering team to deliver consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.

To be successful candidates must have a proven track record in the delivery of ground engineering projects in the UK and be fully conversant with the technical standards that apply.

Job Duties include:

  • Scoping, tendering and supervision of ground investigations;

  • Data interpretation, parameter derivation and design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement;

  • Preparing, checking, and reviewing a wide range of technical documents including Desk Studies, Interpretative reports, Specifications, Drawings and Geotechnical Design Reports;

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team interfacing directly with other Ground Engineering team members, other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;

  • You will take responsibility for delivery of projects or parts of projects under guidance and will undertake the internal checking and review of work by other members of the Ground Engineering team. You will be involved in bidding for jobs and programme and budget control;

  • You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to staff;

  • Support practice development and innovation;

  • Ensure rigorous adherence to AECOMs industry leading quality assurance programme.

  • Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents.

  • A wide range of experience, knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering.

  • A strong working knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practice.

  • Strong analytical skills and in-depth experience in the geotechnical design of foundations, earthworks and retaining structures.

  • Knowledge and experience of the application of the CDM Regulations.

Qualifications

  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering.

  • MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or a related applicable field is desirable but not essential.

  • Chartered status with the ICE, IOM3 or equivalent is desirable. If you do not possess chartered status you must be working towards this with the aim to gain chartered status within the next 1 to 2 years.
