Job Summary

AECOM is looking to employ a Senior Engineer to work within our growing Water consulting team in Basingstoke. The candidate will be expected to have been involved in various design stages of water and wastewater utility projects and capable of working independently where required. Key responsibilities will include carrying out feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications and proposals for water related infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for key local and regional clients.

Job Duties:

  • Design of water and wastewater utilities design including gravity and pressurized networks, treatment works, hydraulics design and ensuring the production of quality deliverables.

  • Hydraulic modelling and associated civil design.

  • Provide clear and consistent guidance for design work carried out by junior engineers and technicians.

  • Work closely and interface with other disciplines in the delivery of engineering design.

  • Task manage parts of a project and hence ensure delivery of tasks to agreed budget, programme and quality.

  • Manage financial aspect of assigned project tasks.

  • Support the preparation of project budget & programme.

  • Liaisons as appropriate with clients, government authorities, contractors, suppliers.

  • Lead a small team of engineers and technicians with line manager responsibilities.

Specific Skills Required:

  • You will understand the importance of Health and Safety in design and contribute to our positive health and safety culture.

  • You will have knowledge of one, or all, of the following;

  • Clean water networks, pump stations and rising mains, reservoirs and treatment works design.

  • Waste water networks including gravity systems, rising mains and treatment works design.

  • Surface water network including gravity networks, pump stations and outfalls.

  • Drainage strategy design including SuDs.

  • Experience of pressurised pipe and/or gravitational system hydraulic design.

  • Experience in using hydraulic design software packages including InfoWorks, MicroDrainage, EPANET etc.

  • You will be expected to understand the importance of project delivery to budget and schedule and manage work effectively to achieve set targets.

  • You will be expected to demonstrate good exposure to construction site works or have site supervision experience

  • It is essential that you have excellent interpersonal skills, using these to develop and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and external clients where required.

  • Demonstrate sound problem solving skills, accountability for assigned work, and solid written and communication skills.

Additional Comments:

  • Experience in using Civils 3D would be an advantage.

  • Experience in Surge Analysis would be an advantage.

  • Hands on experience using project planning packages like Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 would be an advantage.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • You will hold a BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

  • You will be chartered with a relevant institution (e.g ICE or CIWEM) or close to gaining chartership.
