Job Description

AECOM is a leader in the planning, engineering and construction oversight of port and marine projects worldwide with nearly 70 years of experience.

Working with public in private owners and tenants of ports and marine terminals, AECOM plans, models, design and manages full range of projects throughout the globe.

The Ports & Marine division has a team of about 50 port engineers in the UK as well as approximately another 300 in overseas offices. AECOM’s UK Ports & Marine team are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer with experience in maritime sector, to support on multiple UK and international projects.

Job responsibilities

  • Being responsible for the delivery of the project from initial concept through close out, including budgeting, planning, contract negotiation, permitting, and construction.

  • Defining project elements and scope, develops bid documents and providing direct project management oversight by working with consultants, staff, tenants, and other project stakeholders.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with contractors to assist with project activities, as appropriate, and ensuring the contractor adherence to safety programs and insurance requirements.

  • Monitoring project control activities including contract administration, construction schedule, project cost, construction document interpretations, project submittals and RFIs.

  • Reviewing and approving of contractor and consultant payment applications, changing orders, and requesting for substitution.

  • Monitoring project costs to ensure they are within the authorized budgets and delegated authorities.

  • Managing construction activities as they impact stakeholders and facility operations to ensure continuity of operations during construction.

  • Negotiating and reviewing proposals submitted by consultants/contractors and recommends awards.

  • Reviewing consultant work products to ensure deliverables meet project scope requirements and as requested, summarizing and transmitting to the management team.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent experience

  • Proven affinity with civil construction projects, ideally infrastructure and ports

  • Recognized construction or design qualification (or similar experience)

  • Flexible to travel and able to divide time between home, office and client sites

  • HSSE Leadership skills

  • Confident and capable individual with strong client focus, able to operate and grow a performing team

  • A leading example in compliance and ethics

  • Strong track record in delivering projects in a fast moving and challenging environment

  • Good grasp of IT, particularly Excel and Word

  • Valid driving licence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Civil or Structural engineer

  • Geotechnical engineer

  • Coastal engineer

  • Chartered or working towards Chartership or Incorporated Engineer status in civil or structural engineering.

  • Experience of working to design codes, such as British Standards or Eurocodes.

  • An understanding of CDM, Safety in design and CEMD.

  • Membership of PIANC or similar.
