AECOM Environmental Consultant in Basingstoke, United Kingdom

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) team in Basingstoke.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on large-scale projects that are transforming our built environment and infrastructure as you manage and deliver environmental inputs to a wide range of schemes, including rail, road, power, water and commercial and residential.

You’ll provide environmental inputs across all project lifecycles, from early strategy development through feasibility, optioneering / option selection, and outline design, to detailed design, discharging of consents, construction and scheme operation / maintenance.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about delivering effective environmental inputs and positively influencing the environmental performance of development projects. You should be able to demonstrate experience in the following: assisting with the management of multidisciplinary environmental inputs to projects; working closely with design engineers to intercept and mitigate potential environmental effects; engaging and consulting across a wide range of audiences; and assisting with the effective management of resources and budgets.

The successful candidates will be supported by our Environment & Sustainability (E&S) business unit which has more than 650 staff based across the UK.

You will provide support and input to our growing portfolio of high-profile development projects, including:

Rail projects for Network Rail

Water projects for Thames Water and Affinity Water

Road projects for Highways England and local authorities

Renewable energy projects including solar, wind and hydrogen

Commercial and residential including large-scale phased developments and tall buildings

Your role will include:

  • Assisting with the management and coordination of multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a range of projects, with a focus on the management of EIAs in support of gaining development consent

  • Preparing EIA screening and scoping reports and Environmental Statements, including the technical review of specialist chapters

  • Liaising with clients and internal supply teams, including working collaboratively with design teams to ensure environmental considerations are considered

  • Working in partnership with other members of the E&S team, managing resources, delegating activities, monitoring and managing project budgets

  • Supporting work winning activities and associated fee and technical proposals

Minimum Requirements

  • You will have experience and a passion for the developing sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

  • A good understanding of the EIA processes (including screening and scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation.

  • Confident engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups.

  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of an established team.

  • Excellent verbal and report writing skills, including technical reviewing – all with an attention to detail.

  • Project management skills.

  • Willingness to travel for projects when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant environmental discipline

  • Appropriate professional membership

  • Experience of the TCPA and / or DCO consenting regimes an advantage
