Job Summary
AECOM's Water Environment team are looking to recruit an experienced Consultant Aquatic Ecologist to work out of our Basingstoke or Croydon offices. Other office locations in the South of England may be considered.

Desirable Job Requirements:
Possess the motivation, initiative and organizational skills needed to work effectively in a busy multi-disciplinary environment;
Contribute to field work in a range of aquatic habitats: fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, aquatic macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey;
Demonstrate suitable field identification skills for your area of interest or specialism, with wider knowledge of freshwater ecology and habitats;
Work within a network of water scientists and ecologists in the UK and Ireland with opportunities to contribute to multi-disciplinary projects, including Ecological Impact Assessment (EIA), on-site mitigation, long-term monitoring and international ventures, and excellent opportunities for professional development;
Contribute to maintaining internal and external client relationships, including the provision of urgent ecological response and/or advice as required;
Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to write concise technical reports;
Good knowledge of current environmental legislation especially the Water Framework Directive and other legislation relevant to the aquatic environment;
To appreciate Health and Safety issues associated with working near water and in relation to the operation of our aquatic ecology laboratories (procurement and management of reagents; COSHH assessments etc);
To assist with administrative duties and help develop the aquatic ecology team.
Minimum Requirements
Experience in a number of the following freshwater and/or estuarine survey methodologies: fish surveys, fish habitat assessment, aquatic macroinvertebrate survey/identification, aquatic macrophyte survey, habitat assessments for aquatic/riparian species, terrestrial ecology surveys, eDNA sampling;
Experience in the planning, coordinating and scheduling of ecological surveys;
Electronic data capture, analysis and presentation, including large-scale data processing and GIS;
Ecological reporting in line with CIEEM best practice guidelines;
Aspirations for continuing professional development;
Experience of business management procedures;
Preferred Qualifications
Recognised degree in an ecology, biology, zoology or related discipline (essential) – a relevant post graduate qualification would be advantageous;
