AECOM is a global organisation providing engineering and environmental consultancy services to improve the built and natural environments. We are currently looking for an experienced Bridge and Structural Engineer to join our Bridges and Structures team in Basingstoke.
Our team specialises in the design of major civil engineering structures, predominantly for contractor clients. We have an established reputation for producing elegant and economical designs, specialising in high-quality structures across the spectrum of civil and structural engineering.
As an Engineer based in the Basingstoke office you will be part of a team designing heavy civil engineering structures, in particular bridges, underground structures, tunnel portals and major temporary works in the rail and highways environments. Our current projects include high profile infrastructure schemes in the UK and overseas such as Crossrail, Brent Cross Cricklewood Development, Wessex Capacity Upgrade, Riyadh Metro and High Speed 2.
Our newly refurbished office is located in the centre of Basingstoke within five minutes’ walk from the railway station and in the proximity of commercial amenities. The office accommodates more than 400 employees across a wide range of business lines and business management services.
As an Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:
Undertake the design of bridges and other civil engineering structures.
Prepare feasibility, outline and detailed designs.
Undertake the structural analysis of a variety of structural forms.
Prepare design calculations and documentation.
Prepare sketches, liaise with CAD technicians and take responsibility for your drawings.
Undertake the inspection, assessment and strengthening of structures.
Assist in the planning and management of projects.
Prepare technical reports and documents..
Design experience with major civil engineering structures.
Good knowledge of design to Eurocodes.
Good understanding of the design process and interfacing with multiple disciplines.
Sound knowledge of structural mechanics and fundamental engineering principles.
A dedication to good quality engineering.
Ability to think creatively and solve structural engineering problems quickly and efficiently.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Team player, prepared to play your part and be flexible to suit the team and project requirements.
Ability to mentor less experienced engineers.
Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.
Graduate member of ICE or IstructE, and on route to gaining Chartered status.
