Job Summary

Our Streets team have a vacancy for an Associate Director based in our Basingstoke office covering the South East region. Our large multi-discipline office is situated just a few minutes’ walk from the Station and the vibrant town centre which boasts a fantastic range of shopping and eating and drinking establishments. It is also just off the M3 by car with underground staff parking. Aecom offer flexible working and have offices all over the UK including London and Southampton. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns including compressed weeks and a degree of home working.

The Streets team provides concept, preliminary and detailed design and network modelling on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors plus supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.

You will be joining a new team that will be involved in the winning and delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:

Local Authority Clients in the South East, South West Region, UK and Ireland

Transport for London

London Highway Alliance Contract

Southwark Highways & Professional Services Contract

Midlands Highways Alliance

Private Contractors working on behalf of Local Authorities

This is your opportunity to get in at the start of a business and team development opportunity in the South East region. The role would suit a highly motivated dynamic individual looking to advance their career leading and growing a business. In addition to delivering work within the local office the role may involve working with other AECOM teams in the UK and Ireland. We are therefore seeking candidates who are able to work flexibly across other AECOM offices as projects dictate to support the wider business.

Further, the role offers opportunities to work in AECOMs wider European, Middle East, India and Africa regions.

Key Responsibilities:

Establish strong working relationships with local clients through business development and being the key point of contact for meetings and client liaison

Develop strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s Transportation division, working with colleagues to deliver marketing and business development objectives in both the local region and nationally

Prepare detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals and contribute to major bids as required

Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief

Oversee the preparation of feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs for traffic engineering schemes

Oversee the preparation of detailed technical reports providing specialist technical contributions as required

Act as a Project Director and Project Manager including monitoring financial performance. Comprehensive training on AECOM’s project management system will be provided

Pro-actively contribute to the management of the Traffic and Local Roads team, deputising for Traffic and Local Roads District Leader as required

Pro-actively support recruitment activity to continue to grow the local team.

Manage career progression of line reports

Monitor team skills and ensure they are up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation

Promote a health and safety focused culture by undertaking mandatory duties, ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members, and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design

Minimum Requirements

You will have:

  • A successful track record of work winning including preparation of high quality technical bids and proposals

  • Demonstrated experience in developing business and forming strong client relationships including an ability to deal directly with clients and engage and influence at a senior level within client organisations

  • A successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering projects including an ability to effectively manage project commercial risks

  • A proven ability of managing and growing a team, with strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain a highly motivated project delivery team

  • A good industry profile with the gravitas to represent AECOM with major clients.

  • An ability to demonstrate high level of experience and technical expertise in Traffic Engineering design

  • A flexible approach to supporting project and business development activities across UK and Ireland plus wider AECOM geographies

  • A successful track record in the management and delivery of a portfolio of traffic engineering and local transport schemes through both preliminary and / or detailed design stages

Whilst not essential any of the following skills would be desirable:

  • Traffic Regulation Orders and parking

  • Traffic modelling software (e.g. VISSIM, TRANSYT and LinSig etc.)

  • Appreciation of traffic modelling

  • 3D Design (MX or Civils 3D)

  • Urban Design/Streetscape

  • Project Management qualifications (e.g. APM or PRINCE2)

  • Highways asset management and maintenance

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant degree or HND and a Chartered Engineer or membership of a professional institution and working towards an appropriate Chartered status
