AECOM Archaeological Field Technician II in Barrie, Ontario

Job Summary
AECOM is seeking numerous Archaeology Technician II to be based out of our Barrie, Ontario office.
Responsible for carrying out Stages 2-4 archaeological field work under the direction of experienced archaeologists based out of our Barrie, Ontario office.
Must be able to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork in all weather conditions (lift up to 40 lbs and be capable of repetitive movement of shoveling and screening dirt), and be able to work out of town within Ontario for extended periods of time.
Technicians are expected to prioritize health and safety and follow all AECOM procedures including those related with our stringent Covid-19 measures.
Should be able to identify artifacts for collection and conduct excavations in a controlled manner.
Sensitivity and awareness combined with a respectful attitude towards Indigenous culture and people is a must. Collaboration in a team environment is key.
Valid Ontario driver’s license is preferred. Reliable transportation to and from London office or designated project meet spot essential.
Archaeology Field Technician II
Technical Skills:
Demonstrated ability to conduct strenuous physical labour outdoors in all weather conditions.
Excavate and operate in a consistent and controlled manner based on direction given from the Field Supervisor.
1-3 years of experience conducting archaeological fieldwork
Proven ability to recognize cultural material and collect in a controlled manner
Proven physically ability and care when conducting excavations
Some working knowledge of MHSTCI Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
Team Work:
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Willingness to continually learn and take direction
Communication:
Communicate information, issues, concerns related to the site work in an effective and professional manner to Field Supervisor
Organizational Skills:
Attend work in a prepared manner for all weather conditions, ensuring appropriate weather gear in readily available.
Keep artifacts collected as directed by site supervisor, ensuring that others are able to find artifacts based on effective arrangement
Health and Safety:
Models appropriate behavior towards health and safety processes
Commitment & Dedication:
Must be willing to work out of town, across Ontario for extended periods of time
Demonstrated sensitivity and awareness combined with a respectful attitude towards various cultures is required.
Leadership:
Leading by example, taking ownership for responsibilities

Minimum Requirements
- High school + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
