Position Title Steel Bridge Paint Inspector

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Steel Bridge Paint Inspector for immediate employment in the Baltimore, MD office. The qualified candidate will meet all parts of the job description and be able to demonstrate the required knowledge and experience to perform on-site steel bridge paint inspections. The work will be conducted on-site under the general direction of a higher level paint inspector or professional engineer. The Inspector will be assigned to perform on-site paint inspection work at a variety of steel bridge structures throughout the state of Maryland. Driving to and from job sites is an essential part of the work.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Serves as a principal inspector on small to medium-size steel bridge paint projects
May lend technical guidance to client personnel assigned to project
Review the Contractor’s operations to assure technical adherence to plans and specifications
Advises interested parties as to the Contractor’s progress, possible over-run of quantities or potential delays
Maintains accurate records and reports
Performs and analyzes results of field tests
Perform other necessary duties as required
Responsible for supervision of projects of moderate scope and complexity
Supervision from a higher level Paint Inspector or professional engineer
May be required to supervise lower level aides as assigned from time to time
High School Diploma
2+ years of experience in steel bridge painting inspection activities
Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have use of a vehicle to travel to, from and while on location
must live within reasonable commuting distance
Applicants must be willing to travel and be available for working any part of the State, subject to change of assignment as work requires
Applicants may also be required to work various shifts and on weekends depending on assignments
Applicants must be willing and able to wear a full face respirator, fall arrest equipment (full body harness), and protective clothing for the entire work shift when necessary.
A respirator fit test and blood lead test will be conducted prior to reporting to the field for assignments
Applicants must be willing to work at heights over traffic, water, or other features; work in a variety of weather conditions; and climb to inspection locations as required.
Elementary knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, english and introductory knowledge of basic civil engineering principles
Ability to write field notes, make computations and establish control points for measurements
Working knowledge of steel bridge paint inspection principles, practices, methods and tests
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
Working knowledge of engineering tables and reference materials
Proficient with clerical and statistical work requiring application of basic engineering knowledge in all areas above and able to prepare necessary reports
Ability to inspect small or medium size steel bridge paint projects for conformance to plans and specifications
Ability to deal effectively with other employees of the State Highway Administration as well as others
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND CERTIFICATES:
- (a) National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Coatings Inspector Level I, OR
(b) Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) Bridge Coatings Inspector (BCI) Level I, OR
(c) Equivalent Coatings Inspection Training
- (a) Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) C-3 Supervisor / Competent Person for Deleading of Industrial Structures, OR
(b) Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) C-5 Supervisor/Competent Person for Deleading of Industrial Structures Refresher ",
(c) Equivalent Lead Abatement Training
- SHA Temporary Traffic Control Manager (TTCM) Certification
State of Maryland resident
Have performed steel bridge paint inspections for the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) as a Transportation Engineering Technician III or IV within the past 3 years
Possess a good track record with the SHA with references
