Job Summary

AECOM is hiring for DoD projects supporting US Forces in Operation Resolute Support. This is a Contingent Task Order with personnel deployed with the U.S. military at joint installations in Afghanistan. Services provided under this Task Order include response to environmental issues facing the U.S. military, including solid waste recycling, responding to fuel spills, and providing Subject Matter Expertise and other specialized support for various Environmental Corrective Actions in theatre.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as an AECOM representative to client on-site

  • Provide unified and consistent single point of contact for Client and Team

  • Directly Supervise a project team of 10-20 multinational staff

  • Provide technical expertise to the application of environmental remediation/protection concepts, hazardous materials management, spill response, environmental corrective actions, and other relevant items

  • Plan, coordinate, evaluate, and review all phases of task order relevant to above mentioned concepts

  • Liaison with client and corporate management to resolve issues and complete project objectives

  • Other duties that may arise

This is a deployed assignment in Afghanistan. Austere living conditions and travel from primary base of operations to Forward Operating Locations is required. Candidate must be physically and mentally fit for duty.

Minimum Requirements

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and preferred to also have OSHA 8-hour On-Scene Incident Command Certification. The TOM shall have a minimum of 8 years of hazardous materials management/response to hazardous materials incidents/corrective actions

  • The TOM will have experience in supervision and management of technical personnel. Preferred certifications for the TOM include Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), project or program management and supervisory experience, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP), in order to manage CEMS personnel and Environmental Corrective Actions. TOMs may be required to assist the Environmental Managers to provide support to ARCENT/COR to ensure compliance with environmental assessment requirements. Also, the TOM will be responsible for ensuring that all activities meet task order Safety requirements in the approved Accident Prevention Plan (APP)

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check

  • Must also complete and pass any required government security clearance

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen

  • Must also complete Fort Bliss’ Conus Replacement Center physical and medical testing as required

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, dust, noise, and chemicals (e.g., fuel oil, lubricants, etc.); position requires often operation of vehicles, lifting of less than 25 pounds, keyboard/mouse operations, and work around heavy, moving, dangerous equipment; performing repetitive fine hand movements, and lifting of 25-50 pounds; Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous environmental management experience in austere environments

  • Previous experience supporting U.S. military environmental efforts

  • Previous experience working within the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility

  • Relevant Industry or HSE certifications (e.g.CSP, OSHT, CHMM, REM, PG)
