Job Summary

AECOM is hiring for DoD projects supporting US Forces in Operation Inherent Resolve. This is a Contingent Task Order with personnel deployed with the U.S. military at joint installations in Afghanistan. Services provided under this Task Order include response to environmental issues facing the U.S. military, including solid waste recycling, responding to fuel spills, and providing Subject Matter Expertise and other specialized support for various Environmental Corrective Actions in theatre.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop Activity Hazard Analysis

  • Implement Accident Prevention Plan (APP)

  • Train multinational staff

  • Other duties that may arise

This is a deployed assignment in Afghanistan. Austere living conditions and travel from primary base of operations to Forward Operating Locations is required. Candidate must be physically and mentally fit for duty.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of related experience, candidates with 4+ years of experience and third party certifications will also be considered

  • Must meet the SSHO requirements for EM 385-1-1. Safety Manager required qualifications include OSHA DOL 30 hours, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), HAZWOPER Train the Trainer Certification, 8-hour Hazardous Waste Supervisor Certification, and 8-hour Permit Required Confined Space. Preferred certifications for the Safety Manager include CHMM, or Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP) and/or CSP. This position will report directly to the Project Manager to ensure that all efforts meet the Work Plan and the APP, and that there is an Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) for relevant activities.

  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check.

  • Must also complete and pass any required government security clearance.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen

  • Must also complete Fort Bliss’ Conus Replacement Center physical and medical testing as required.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in indoor and outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, dusts, and dryness; position requires often standing/walking; occasionally working alone in isolated/remote areas and lifting less than 25 pounds; rarely working with arms above shoulder level, performing repetitive bending & stooping, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, working at heights, climbing stairs, using portable ladders, wearing fall protection, operation of heavy, moving or dangerous equipment, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, performing work on Electrical Circuits, working in confined spaces, performing keyboard/mouse operations, repetitive fine hand movements, and lifting of 25 to more than 75 pounds; Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment including body armor vest and helmet.

  • Applicants shall meet CENTCOM MOD 13 Medical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous environmental management experience in austere environments

  • Previous experience supporting U.S. military environmental efforts

  • Previous experience working within the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility

  • Relevant Industry or HSE certifications (e.g.CSP, OSHT,CHMM, STS)

  • OSHA HAZWOPER Trainer

  • CPR/FA trainer

  • Dod veteran
