Job Summary

AECOM Design Consulting Services Division is hiring a Senior Scientist to join the Austin, TX office for immediate employment. This position will be part of the Air Measurements Section within the Central Region. The section, which is responsible for a wide range of air-measurements work, consists of>50 team members ranging in experience from 1 to over 35 years of experience with plans to grow in numbers and talent. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a full understanding of source emissions testing and fundamentals of analytical chemistry.

Responsibilities of this position will include executing and assisting with managing projects involving source emissions testing and consulting services including: leading field teams, sample collection and recovery, emissions calculations, and compiling and writing reports and other documents.

The candidate will assist with successfully conducting projects for industrial and public clients meeting cost, schedule, and quality objectives. The candidate will participate in project teams and coordinate with other AECOM offices doing similar work to share knowledge, and participate in targeted business development activities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct field testing

  • Interface with clients and regulators

  • Complete projects on time and accurately

  • Promote and demonstrate a positive, team-oriented attitude

  • Perform quality checks on other team members' technical work products

  • Lead the preparation of health and safety plans, test plans, and reports

  • Apply principles of chemistry and measurement science to solve environmental problems

  • Apply knowledge of applicable health and safety requirements and environmental concerns

  • Perform Methods 1 through 5 and 18 (40 CFR Part 60)

  • Support performance of Relative Accuracy Test Audits (RATA) for continuous emissions monitoring systems, testing for demonstration of compliance, testing for establishing operating limits, testing of flares, etc.

  • Conduct special air monitoring assignments as needed

  • Plan and execute work assignments with limited instructions

  • Assist incineration plant operations and maintenance person as needed

  • Contribute positively to health, safety, environmental and quality programs by performing work safely and adhering to all safety standards and protocols

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or similar degree

  • 10+ years of experience including 7 years of source testing experience and/or industrial process laboratory experience and 2 years of project management experience

  • Ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, confined-space entry, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions

  • Ability to wear an air-purifying respirator, as required by OSHA Standards.

  • Requires enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals

  • Experience with source testing task management, including contributing to proposals, communicating with clients, working in project teams, coordinating technical tasks, and writing reports

  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills

  • Must have strong written and oral communication, quantitative, and interpersonal skills

  • Must have strong work ethic and professional demeanor

  • Independent thinker with a strategic mindset while being detail oriented and able to work as part of a team

  • Candidate must be proactive on projects and demonstrate initiative

  • Proficient use of PC- based applications (MS Word and Excel) and good typing skills

  • Must possess valid Driver’s license

  • Due to the nature and location of work, United States Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • QSTI certified

  • Industrial process laboratory experience
