Job Summary/Responsibilities

  • Work as the Principal Civil Engineer on large flood control projects, or in some cases as the Project Manager depending on candidate’s skills and preferences, and depending on needs of the team.

  • Responsible for the preparation and successful completion of construction package deliverables (design drawings, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports).

  • Produce or oversee the production of the BIM and comprehensive set of plans to high standards of quality using current computer software, including proficiency in OpenRoads and experience in Civil 3D.

  • Prepare technical specifications.

  • Work closely and lead all disciplines within the project team including civil, geotechnical, H&H engineers, structural engineers, and surveyors to provide value to each project

  • Review work produced by others to ensure timely and accurate results.

  • Ensure compliance of design with all applicable standards and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer.

  • Provide technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.

  • Conduct site visits at active construction sites to examine field conditions, site work that is under construction, site utilities, sediment and erosion control inspections, as built conditions

  • Provide field support for construction, particularly in the deployment and maintenance of erosion and sediment control features.

  • Present to clients for projects and proposals, as needed.

  • Help determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.

  • Assists on proposals and with business development as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Professional Engineer license in Texas or Louisiana, or able to obtain license within 6 months of employment.

  • Valid Driver’s License required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Design-build experience

  • Project management experience

  • Water and wastewater treatment project experience across feasibility, outline, detailed design, construction support extremely desirable

  • Experience using OpenRoads

  • Experience in site civil design is a plus.

  • Experience in civil design and construction techniques for highway projects is a plus.

  • Principal Level: Greater than 20 years of experience as a Civil Engineer

  • Working knowledge of federal flood control design guidelines, like USACE Engineering Manuals and FEMA’s 44 CFR Section 65.

  • Expertise in developing full construction documents for horizontal heavy earthwork projects.

  • Able to take full responsibility for producing, checking, and approving engineering reports and designs

  • Ability to coordinate, liaise and engage with clients and key stakeholders

  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and technical advice to support and supervise junior staff

  • Lead and mentor a large team of engineers and technicians with line manager responsibilities.

  • Significant experience in managing the technical delivery of large-scale water engineering projects with multi-disciplinary knowledge.

  • Experience with cost estimating and quantity takeoffs for an engineer’s estimate.

  • Ability to work on fast paced complex projects

  • Ability to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time

  • Willing to work overtime if needed to complete a task to meet the client’s schedule or request

  • Detail-oriented and technical

  • Highly motivated self-starter

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

  • Experience in flood control projects, like dams, levees, channels, rivers, sediment control features, etc.

  • Experience working on federal projects for agencies like USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS, etc.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Bentley design suites and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
