Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Mechanical Engineer for immediate employment for the Austin, TX office.

The Industrial, Power, Oil & Gas business unit of AECOM in Austin, Texas, is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to function as part of a multi-discipline project team to deliver design packages and technical work on assigned projects. The successful candidate will perform design and analysis of mechanical equipment, piping systems and structural elements in support of projects across multiple industries, including Power, Industrial, Oil and Gas. Accountable for the completion of assignments to the high standards of AECOM and the Client, within budget and schedule. Typical projects can range in value from $100,000 to $50,000,000 and encompass all phases, including engineering, procurement and construction.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares drawings and visual aids either as self-created sketches or in collaboration with a CAD Designer / drafting team

  • Performs mechanical design calculations and standard computations including but not limited to pipe sizing, pipe stress, pipe hydraulics, thermal growth, and finite element analysis

  • Prepares technical specifications for mechanical equipment and fabricated components

  • Applies standard practices and techniques, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follows operations through series of related detailed steps or process

  • Provides supervision on all aspects of project deliverables sufficient to provide professional engineering seal / certification

  • Works under the direction of project manager, project engineer, and/or mechanical engineering team lead

  • Provides expert judgment / direction on details of work and in making selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Performs assignments requiring application of standard scientific techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out tasks

  • Providing field support (travel required) for vendor surveillance, construction support and equipment start-up

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience

  • Professional Engineering License obtained by PE Examination

  • Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record for design packages

  • Strong analytical and communication skills

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply industry codes and standards

  • Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing and standard engineering software

  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising junior staff

  • Good attitude

  • This position does not include sponsorship for US work authorization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with industry standard computer software including but not limited to AutoCAD, CAESAR II and AFT Fathom

  • Direct or Indirect project-based management of junior and/or staff-level engineers
