AECOM Geologist / Environmental Scientist (2-3 years experience) in Austin, Texas

Job Summary

The Environment Business Line at AECOM Technical Services is seeking an environmental geologist, engineer or related discipline to join our (Austin, TX) office as project staff. Responsibilities will involve supporting projects of various size and scope in field and office setting in contaminant investigation, contaminant remediation, and environmental due diligence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support site assessment and remediation projects at sites impacted with petroleum products, drycleaner solvents, and/or other hazardous substances at private, state, local and federal facilities

  • Assist with collecting and evaluating geological, hydrogeological, and remediation system performance data in both field and office settings

  • Perform environmental fieldwork including overseeing drilling of wells, soil borings, and excavation of contaminated soils, as well as collecting soil, groundwater, and soil gas samples

  • Perform aquifer tests, including slug tests, step-drawdown tests, and pumping tests, and interpretation of aquifer test data with supervision of project hydrogeologist

  • Interpretation and presentation of field data in reports that will require technical writhing, and preparation of data analysis summary tables, graphs, subsurface cross sections, potentiometric surface maps, boring logs and figures suitable for client and government agency/regulatory review

  • Apply technical principles and theories for environmental assessments and to define the nature and extent of contamination in soil and groundwater

  • Track and communicate workload and availability with direct manager

  • Act as task manager for small segments of projects, and assist in determining schedule and budget requirements

  • Learn and apply AECOM safety requirements

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements :

  • 2+ years’ experience in contaminant investigations, remediation, hydrogeology, and/or environmental sampling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. in geology, environmental engineering, or related scientific discipline.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Strong communication skills, the ability to write/prepare technical documents, and the ability convey thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions, and the confidence to ask questions to grasp objectives.

  • Ability to take instruction, operate within a team network, and work independently without direct supervision.

  • Ability to work proficiently with MS Office products and organize data clearly.

  • Successful candidates will be self-motivated and able to balance work schedule.

  • Valid driver license required, and must be able to safely drive to job sites.

  • Must be able to obtain TWIC card This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization

  • Field experience

  • Knowledge of environmental data collection, investigation, and data entry skills

  • Experience reading and interpreting environmental regulations

  • Knowlwedge of transit-related due diligence and investigation programs

  • Proficiency in using pumps, field instruments, and mechanical skills are beneficial

  • Knowledge of soil and groundwater remedial techniques

  • Experience acquiring and manipulating spatial data and knowledge of GIS data and collection. GIS coursework preferred.
