AECOM Principal Civil Engineer in Auckland, New Zealand

Job Summary

Our Civil Infrastructure team in Auckland is expanding and we are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer. As a Principal you will be a key member of our multi-disciplined design engineering team. To be successful in the role you will utilise your considerable technical and industry experience to provide civil and transportation design engineering input to project teams, developing safe project solutions, and supervising construction activities.

You will provide leadership to professional and technical staff on complex projects that deliver high standard outcomes for AECOM clients. You will also be involved in regular client liaison, business development and winning work.

As a Principal Civil Engineer you will :

  • Comply with the AECOM Safety, Health & Environment (SH&E) policy by adopting best work practices

  • Mentor staff in the development of their design and project management skills, enhancing both your own and the company’s capabilities.

  • Be open to challenges in all aspects of transportation, such as highway, aviation, rail and operational contracts, with appropriate support

  • Possess and demonstrate solid functional and/or technical knowledge, skills and abilities specific to role/level and apply them effectively in connection with business goals.

  • Consistently communicate difficult or complex ideas clearly and effectively, with a wide variety of senior, technical, business and management audiences, both inside and outside of AECOM

  • Build strong relationships with clients to ensure repeat business through the successful delivery of projects

  • Assist Team Leaders and the Group Manager in the growth of the Transportation Business by delivering on strategic objectives, managing client relations and delivery

  • Project manage and / or design manage the delivery of significant transportation related design projects

  • Take responsibility for delivery of tasks and individual projects. This involves technical quality, budget and programme

  • Checking and verification of calculations, specifications, and drawings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in transportation design with knowledge of relevant local council and national standards

  • Preferably in excess of 10 years' experience in a civil engineering role ‘Engineer to the Contract’ or ‘Engineers Representative’ qualifications would be an advantage

  • Solid experience in key client contract management

  • Experience in technical advisor or technical reviewer roles for clients

  • Experience in successfully leading project teams

  • Experience working as a Consultant

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or similar

  • CPEng qualified would be preferable but not essential
