Job Summary

The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Planner for immediate employment based in Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential.

This NEPA Environmental Planner position will support the multi-discipline environmental group in transportation. This candidate will perform tasks ranging from research, writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping among other duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Gathers data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports

  • Compiles and organizes environmental data collected by others. Works with those who collect the data to understand and interpret data into reporting.

  • Provide support which includes tracking NEPA and other environmental efforts

  • Prepares reports for internal and external audiences.

  • Prepares basic data and scientific documents to include maps/figures, technical reports, agency coordination, NEPA documents, and permit applications.

  • Works under the supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Takes ownership, responsibility to manage tasks and drive project delivery.

  • Critical Thinker who can understand the differences and similarities of situations and apply lessons learned from one project to another.

  • Self-starter, flexible and quick learner

  • Strong capabilities in task leadership, project management, and environmental management.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, and related disciplines)

  • 6+ years of related environmental planning experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Functional knowledge of ArcGIS software

  • Experienced ability to conduct field surveys and delineate wetlands/streams

  • Knowledge of flora, fauna, and natural systems

  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, and related disciplines)

  • Experience preparing GDOT NEPA Programmatic Categorical Exclusions, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements and special studies documentation, if applicable.

  • Experience applying the GDOT Plan Development Process

  • Experienced with technical/scientific writing
