AECOM Ecologist II in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Summary

The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Ecologist for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will join an excellent team with significant career growth potential.

This Ecologist position will support the multi-discipline environmental group in Transportation. This candidate will perform tasks ranging from reviews, fieldwork, research, report writing, data collection and compilation, and GIS mapping among other duties.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • This position supports the environmental transportation practice.

  • This role would consist of preparation/QAQC permit applications and environmental deliverables (including schedule management requiring interdisciplinary team coordination and ensuring schedules are updated based on changing client and/or regulatory needs) and guiding clients in the permitting and environmental management process to obtain environmental clearances

  • This position would require an experienced professional to have experience to provide QAQC for environmental documents (Ecology Resource Survey Reports, Assessments of Effect, 404 Permits, State Buffer Variances, Protected Species Reports, and supporting materials)

  • Prepares fieldwork using GIS and digital data tools, converts data into a narrative and geospatial manners to address queries

  • Experienced in field delineations of waters of the US and buffered state waters, protected species surveys and their habitats

  • Gather data and other information to be used in the preparation of ecological reports of investigations; compile and organize data collected by other

  • This position would involve program management support, including project management experience, managing multiple aspects of projects, tasks and schedules

  • Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to public, agencies, clients, and stakeholders

  • Performs technical approach, quality control, data assessments, report reviews and QA/QC.

  • Works under supervision of management but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision

  • Experience working with GA state agencies and federal agencies to navigate permitting/regulatory requirements to obtain agency environmental clearances and to determine agency jurisdictionality of natural resources

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Science, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, or related field, and 2+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • 2 or more years of experience in working with US Army Corps of Engineers and Environmental Protection Division documentation of Georgia DOT projects, including the ability to work on a wide range of projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload.

  • 2 or more years of experience with Federal and State DOT requirements, processes, and guidance.

  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and GIS.

  • GDOT experience and understanding of client needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Program management, authoring Ecology documents and permit applications in support of Georgia DOT (GDOT) projects.

  • GDOT and state and federal agencies tasked with regulatory requirements for transportation projects in Georgia;

  • Preferred demonstrated experience working in a dynamic environment with multiple projects, deliverables, schedules, and timelines with ability to manage time and priorities under limited supervision; demonstrated leadership of interdisciplinary teams to meet deadlines and ensure project delivery; customer service oriented with demonstrated client-facing experience
