Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Construction Inspector for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office with the project worksite located in Wilcox, PA. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

Lead the quality assurance at the East Branch Clarion River Dam project site with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District. The project includes a double line grout curtain with a concrete cutoff wall in between the grout lines. Drilling and excavation depths can be up to 250’ or more. The drilling and excavation activities are being done within an earthen embankment dam and down into bedrock. Wall element excavations are stabilized by keeping them full of bentonite slurry. The general work area is a reinforced concrete pad approximately 100’ wide by 1700’ long across the embankment, and 50’ wide by 500’ long across the spillway area.

The working environment will include both office and field work. Office work would be in project site trailers. Field work may require varying shifts to match up with the contractor’s schedules, and could be in a variety of weather conditions (hot/cold, rain/snow, high winds).

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Works under supervision of the Pittsburg District Area and Resident Engineers, who assign responsibilities and delegate authority to make determinations and decisions, e.g., construction progress and pay entitlement, QA and other contract compliance.

  • Provide Quality Assurance surveillance of geotechnical construction for a concrete cutoff wall.

  • Activities would include monitoring the contractor’s work to verify compliance with appropriate, plans, specifications, submittals, etc.

  • Collects data on both Government and Contractor checklists, and preparing daily Quality Assurance Reports in the Corps of Engineers Resident Management System (RMS).

  • Ensures the Contractor is performing activities in accordance with the 3-Phase Quality Control inspections, as well as ensuring the Contractor is in compliance with applicable safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • Five years of experience as geotechnical construction project inspector

  • Five years minimum experience providing inspection of civil works projects that dams, levees, and cutoff walls

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Demonstrate knowledge of soils, concrete and horizontal construction experience

  • Microsoft Office experience;proficient in Word and Excel.

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely with written and verbal communication

  • Interprets and applies the content of contracts, specifications, plans, applicable codes and standards, field reports and laboratory tests to construction projects

  • Performs duties with only general supervision

  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative for large scale complex construction projects
