AECOM Deputy Head of Geospatial Engineering in Ashford, United Kingdom

Job Summary

Our Geospatial Engineering team requires an Associate Geospatial Engineer with extensive experience of providing geospatial and geomatics input to infrastructure projects.

The role is predominantly in connection with Rail and Highways projects but will also involve work in other sectors include nuclear, buildings, and water.

The Geospatial Engineering team sit within the national Rail Asset Management group, based out of Nottingham and comprises around 160 staff, providing one-stop access to a variety of surveying, measurement and asset investigation services.

We are looking to enhance and grow with individuals with a sound technical background in geospatial engineering or geomatics that share our enthusiasm and determination.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the industry with a proven track record in the successful technical delivery of projects and will be fully conversant with the standards that apply throughout the industry.

We are looking for an ambitious team player with strong technical skills who wishes to assist in the development of innovative, cost effective and buildable solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding.

The appointed individual will play a key supporting role to our Head of Geospatial Engineering, giving senior technical oversight of our projects, and guidance and leadership to staff within the discipline. Internally the candidate will serve both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget and must have strong behavioural competencies with respect to client care, collaborative working, H&S management, accuracy and quality of work and independent decision making. They will actively participate in project delivery and contribute to the national growth of the discipline.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the technical quality of work carried out by the local team and ensure that a consistent and acceptable level of quality is provided by the office.

Be actively involved in project delivery and ensure that a high level of sold time is achieved.

Ensure that the technical processes and procedures for the delivery of discipline outputs are robust and updated as and when appropriate.

Ensure that refined technical processes and procedures are in place.

Develop and maintain standardised delivery processes to ensure consistency of outputs in the discipline.

Proactively be involved in bids to ensure that the discipline input is properly and adequately represented and that interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders are adequately identified and managed.

Ability to lead bids and managing new and existing frameworks and projects.

Minimum Requirements

Work with commercial teams to prepare and publish monthly charts showing resource needs based on secured and potential work.

Manage the discipline staff and equipment resources in a pro-active way to ensure that all projects are adequately resourced

Be actively involved in the recruitment of staff by the identification of resource gaps and ensure that these gaps are filled with appropriately skilled and experienced staff.

Provide management reports as required with a monthly update of progress against plan.

Client Engagement:

Maintain close, personal, contact with key clients undertaking a formal programme of local client reviews on a regular basis. Have a detailed understanding of the local geospatial market.

Work closely with other local business Lines to promote the whole of AE

  • Manages and coordinates surveys and investigations of land surfaces.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements, including boundary calculations and legal issues.

  • Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Acts as advisor to land surveying team regarding projects, tasks, and operations.
