Job Summary
AECOM ’ s Design and Consulting Services legal department is actively seeking an experienced attorney for immediate employment. The successful candidate will provide legal assistance to the East Region business team for the legal department, with a focus on complex infrastructure projects. This position can be based in any major AECOM office located within the East Region, however, it is preferred the location be in the DC Metro area, such as, Arlington, VA, Glen Allen, VA, Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC.

Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:
Participating in and supporting business development activities including cross-functional review of RFQ/RFP requirements for professional services (engineering, architecture, environmental, and other technical services), contract reviews, collaboration with senior managers in the Legal Department to obtain approval of non-standard contract terms, identification of risk and opportunity, and development of risk mitigation plans.
Negotiating contractual issues (master service agreements, joint venture agreements, subcontracts, purchase orders etc.) including terms and conditions for bonds, delays and damages, penalties, insurance, contractual obligations, and interrelations with third parties
Communicating with clients, governmental authorities and other stakeholders.
Providing ongoing support to the East Region, including Latin America, in a team environment so as to evaluate and resolve complex business issues and to assist in setting appropriate strategies relating to contract negotiation and claims resolution.
Ensuring implementation of and team adherence to sound contract management and risk assessment policies.
Multi-tasking on a large number of various contract issues, claims and/or litigation, and general advice requests.
Assisting project teams on large infrastructure programs, including notices of non-compliance, delay or other contractual issues.
Conducting training across different functional areas on terms and conditions, corporate policies and risk mitigation.
Preparing of reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary.
Working collaboratively with diverse group of professionals, including the company’s executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, engineers, scientists and contracts staff, as well as the ability to work with attorneys for external clients and subcontractors.
Using online databases to document work and maintain updates.
Managing litigation and directing and overseeing the work of outside counsel.
Supporting the legal department’s goals to support diversity, equity and inclusion goals amongst the legal department, the company, and outside vendors.

Minimum Requirements
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the bar in any state or the District of Columbia.
Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney with a minimum of 5 years supporting engineering and/or construction projects to include:
Construction law experience, which may include drafting and negotiating agreements for engineering and/or other service- based contracts, and/or handling claims and litigation related to engineering and/or construction projects.
Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills with substantive expertise with key provisions of most contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years working as a project attorney on large infrastructure projects.
Bilingual – English & Spanish.
Previous experience participating in and supporting business development activities including cross-functional review of RFQ/RFP requirements for professional services (engineering, architecture, environmental, and other technical services), contract reviews, collaboration with senior managers in the Legal Department to obtain approval of non-standard contract terms, identification of risk and opportunity, and development of risk mitigation plans.
Well-developed communications skills; ability to clearly and concisely express legal issues and analysis to management, clients, government authorities and other stakeholders.
Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently and in groups.
Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities.
Excellent writing, presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred work location: Glen Allen, VA or where any large AECOM office resides in Virginia, Washington, DC or Maryland.
