AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and motivated Manager, Consulting for immediate employment in the Arlington VA office to provide planning/engineering services for a variety of transportation clients. The candidate will also provide technical expertise in the general areas of transportation planning, project feasibility evaluations, master planning, travel demand forecasting and dynamic assignments studies.

We are searching for a self-starter to lead complex, multidisciplinary transportation planning study assignments. The candidate will manage multiple assignments simultaneously and collaborate with other specialists on transportation studies.

The Consulting Manager will provide innovative solutions and guide the development of the next generation of travel demand models, including the use of dynamic traffic assignment and activity-based modeling techniques.

The candidate may also be required to carry out complex or novel assignments or research requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Travel demand model design, development, calibration, validation and application

  • Data development and application of dynamic traffic assignment and regional simulation models

  • Implementation support for activity-based demand models

  • Travel survey design, processing, and analysis

  • Project evaluation for Alternatives Analysis/DEIS and major investment studies

  • Report writing and presentation of findings

  • Project management and business development

  • Staff supervision and training

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, applied mathematics or equivalent

  • PhD degree in related engineering discipline can substitute for 2 years of experience

  • 8+ years of experience in travel demand modeling, traffic forecasting, and model development and application to include a minimum of 3 years of experience managing travel demand modeling activities in support of transportation planning or traffic engineering studies

  • Requires thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of transportation planning applications, specifically the 4-Step process of travel demand modeling, activity-based models, and dynamic traffic assignment models

  • Requires software expertise including the ability to edit and create scripts for applications of the Cube, TransCAD, EMME, and/or VISUM software products

  • Strong organizational skills and strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required to successfully interact with clients, other consultants, and AECOM staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in engineering, planning, applied mathematics or equivalent

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification

  • Experience with TRANSIMS, VISSIM, DynusT, DTALite, DaySim, and/or CTRamp

  • Software development experience with C++, C#, Python, and/or Java

  • Database management experience with MS Access, SQL, SPSS or SAS
